Replace heating (bake) element in Maytag convection oven MER8775AS0

Lessons learned and what makes this oven different than most you’ll learn about from other videos. Not mentioned, but also like the suggestion of testing continuity on both the new and old element to verify you have found the issue.

I just replaced the heating element on the similar oven. There’s an access panel on the back with two screws adjacent to the cord connection. Much easier to connect leads from back

Appreciate that Bill. I thought I looked back there, but must not have noticed the panel on mine. I think some of the research I was doing suggested the need to go from the inside and I just didn't question it. Oh well.

I just did this process on same model oven ( MER8775AS0 ) yesterday. I didn't see this comment before I dived in but can confirm this is correct. I came back here to share but Bill beat me to it. I had to pull the oven out to unplug it anyways and saw a metal cover in the center of the back of the oven where the power cord seemed to go into. I removed the two screws of the metal cover, removed cover, and voila the leads are right there connected to the two prongs which stick out the back of the oven / insulation. Took the time to clean the sides of the oven and beneath the oven while I had it out. Overall process took twenty minutes and most of it was spent sweeping and cleaning instead of actually doing the repair and fighting with leads I couldn't see.

I guess I’ll try replacing this certain element. Turned the oven on tonight and sparks and an immediate orange glow in the bottom left corner. First things first, I’ll pull out the oven and unplug it. You had me thinking that you changed the element without unplugging it.

Just a quick tip from the completed repair. Before you proceed with the element repair-remove the lower pan and inspect the element, mine was extremely damaged in several places-if you run your fingers along the element, you will find these cracks. Also: visual inspection of the element will insure you buy the correct replacement. The oven temp was off by 100 degrees, this was the initial tip that something was wrong. I hope this helps-I have been very disappointed with this product-a few years ago the door glass dropped by about an inch-I could not get Maytag to honor the warranty. (I Believe this was because this was a scratch and dent sale) I made the difficult repair myself-it was not for the faint of heart!

You can just unplug it from the back, I don’t understand how could you reach out to the connectors from the fan hole

Do not do it that way! Unless you can not access the back of your oven. Just pull your oven out and unplug it there's two screws to remove and everything is exposed Easy Peasy.

Don't do it this way!!!! Extremely dangerous!!! He failed to say anything about unplugging the oven until the end of his misdirecting video. You could potentially die from following this process if you don't unplug the oven. If you go through the trouble of pulling the oven out to unplug it, two screws and the access panel is off, element connections exposed and done, maybe 30 seconds. Don't do it this way, you've been warned!!!!

This is not the best way to go. Way easier to connect the element by removing two screws in the back and accessing the terminals.
