Thank you. The muffler on my 04 Grand Prix fell off this summer and I’m a noobie to cars trying to figure out what I need to put a new one on. This video is very helpful.

How many catalytic converters in resonators does my 2000 Grand Prix have 3800
@marcustuggle58572 жыл бұрын
What kinda muffler did u use first
@Kings.Handyman232 жыл бұрын
Hey man, nice job! Looks great! Did you, by chance, happen to take the converter off? If so, how and what did you use to get to the upper flange nuts from manifold?
@DaveWirth2 жыл бұрын
It was a while ago, but no i don't think i touched the converter.

What about on my Grand Prix. It's rusted loose from the front of flex pipe. Manifold frontal area. How can it be fixed without a new catalliac converter? Too expensive. Unnecessary fix.
@DaveWirth3 жыл бұрын
Get rid of the catalytic converter, just replace it with a straight pipe.
@rosavega86425 жыл бұрын
I just replaced the whole resonator/muffler/intermediate pipe. It was horrifically rusted thought. Upstate New York winters are great on cars. Had the same type of use as you.

Hi Dave, Dale here. I recently replaced the crank battery on my 05 GTP, 3.8l S/C. Now, every thing works but no clock in the dash. I have the 5 button UIC with nav. And the nav works. The buttons used to set the clock are greyed out. Both the GPS and DST don't light. 12 is lit but I cannot change it to 24 HR clock. What am I missing???? Thanks for any help, am I missing an antenna all of a sudden?
@DaveWirth4 жыл бұрын
That's weird. If it worked before, then all you did is replace the battery???? Maybe when reattaching the wires to the battery something came loose? Maybe it blew a fuse?

my dads stock res was cut out 3 yrs ago and replaced with a straight section of pipe and now needs to be worked on again.. no problem tomorrow plus i have swaybar endlinks clunking ..i will put it on jackstands tomorrow.. i will find out.. reply n see how she goes..

Do you have part numbers for the quiet set of mufflers
@DaveWirth4 жыл бұрын
Not sure. If i did have it, it would be in one of my 2 blog posts i did about it davewirth.blogspot.com/2013/08/replace-pontiac-grand-prix-exhaust_27.html and davewirth.blogspot.com/2013/10/new-mufflers-part-2.html

So would the clamps be easier to put on, rather than welding the pipes??
@DaveWirth5 жыл бұрын
Yes clamps are easier, i shouldn't have welded the pipes together. Clamps are easier to assemble, install and take apart.
@Meinstein Жыл бұрын
Sure! Clamps are easy to snip or burn off and replace. Unless you are going to put your car through a LOT of stress on a regular basis.. U clamps have a proven track record.

Dave I have a 99 grand Prix just put two turbo mufflers on.but still not loud as I want.can I put like a glass pack where the resenator is?
@DaveWirth8 жыл бұрын
+douglas chase Probably, but not really sure. I've never put a glass pack on a car. But it seems reasonable to fit it in there in place of the resonator.
@davidbauer48308 жыл бұрын
douglas chase I replaced my resonator on my 2006 grand Prix with a thrush glass pack and it works fine for me. Honestly I don't hear any difference between that and stock as I didn't change the muffler on it. The only reason I did it is because it's so much cheaper then buying a stick resonator and my reviews rusted through.
@robsp328 жыл бұрын
what are the part #'s on the mufflers you wound up with? looks like it included the tips too
@DaveWirth8 жыл бұрын
+robsp32 I'd have to go back and look for the part number, i don't know if i have it. And NO the tips were not included. I should have saved the stock ones that came with the car. Now i just have the rusty ends of the mufflers sticking out.

id give you tips on welding but ive found even though im college and union educated ppl just blow me off like im full of shit. so i guess ill just wait and see if you really want any sound advice.

was your exhaust piping 2 1/4? I'm looking for the right size resonator for my 2006 grand Prix and help would be great thanks.
@DaveWirth9 жыл бұрын
+michael Cormican I think it was only 2". Or it was 1.5" with a 2" flange. Here check what i wrote on the 2 blog posts: davewirth.blogspot.com/2013/08/replace-pontiac-grand-prix-exhaust_27.html and davewirth.blogspot.com/2013/10/new-mufflers-part-2.html

Welding galvanized exhaust pipe will burn off the galvanizing and cause the pipe to rust our very quickly. It is better to use clamps. If you must weld then coat the pipe with a high temp automotive grade paint that can handle the heat of the exhaust pipe.

Nice video. I have 2000 grand prix and it is suddenly extremely loud. Not surprising 250k miles on it. Anyways nice video straight and to the point and not self aggrandizing. I will try to use the clamps bc don't wanna have to weld.

well if you would of had checked out the ZZ performance exhaust it has a custom fit with clamps and you not need to weld at all. Factory fit plus stainless never rust / 1.5 hours install. Your welds will rust in two seasons. Good luck with it

I’m having problems with my manifold pipe now and I think my catalytic converters are stop up I’m trying to find out what causing my car to keep cutting off
@DaveWirth6 жыл бұрын
Generra Malone You could just replace your catalytic converter with a straight pipe...
@generramalone86476 жыл бұрын
Dave Wirth But will that stop it from cutting up it want stay on thon
@DaveWirth6 жыл бұрын
Generra Malone I don't know. I was just saying if you thought that was the problem, a straight pipe is cheaper. Just try and eliminate or isolate what could be the problem

you must really not like any exhaust sound, those were Dynomax Super Turbo's which are just about the quietest performance mufflers you can get, anything quieter is going to be a stock-type replacement like a Walker QuietFlow, TrueFit or SoundFX which don't flow as well, but if you're happy with that that's all the matters, personally i don't like just hearing engine noise, i have to hear the exhaust
