Appreciate the concise and no longer than necessary how to video. So many other repair videos drone on and on and are big time wasters. Simple job to do but always good to review procedure for clarity and reminder of tools needed. Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to make this video, mate! I was quoted $300 to replace my front swaybar links on my 986. Nothing against my mechanic (he does great work), but with a swap this straight-forward I'm going to take a shot at it myself (bonus: learn a bunch in the process!).

Is alignment required after replacing the front or rear sway bar links? I have a 2012 Boxster S with only 20,000km. It makes a clunk noise at the front end when reversing out of the driveway with sharp turns. Not sure if the sway bar is the cause. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thx

Thanks for posting this. Were you experiencing any particular noises/symptoms from the old sway bar drop links that was fixed by replacing them? I have a lot of clunking noises from mine and wondering if this is likely to help with that (vs. so many other things it might be - various control/track arms, strut, strut mounts, or strut bump stops, etc). Thanks again

not hearing any noises, I was in there replacing tie rod ends (lots of clunk and looseness from those) and lower control arm so I figured I replace the drop links at the same time.

Do you have the weight of the car on the axle stands? When you remove the top through fixing does that not mean that the strut could move in the hub carrier as I thought the top link bolt serves as the pinch bolt holding the strut in the carrier?
@miketaylor461611 ай бұрын
Did you get an answer. Where are the jack stands supporting the weight?
@ebeing29553 ай бұрын
yes the strut can move in the carrier, you can use a jack to support the wheel carrier and push the strut frimly into position.

How do you install these to avoid binding? I am having issues with 'clunking' at full steer and think these may be the culprit. They're new so wondering what I goofed in install. Ideas?
@ZipZapDIY5 жыл бұрын
they are fairly plug and play, cant do much wrong when you install them, torque to proper spec and you're good.. checked your inner and outer tie rods?
@DWraysGarage5 жыл бұрын
@@ZipZapDIY Yup. Tie rods were replaced at same time. Issue seems to be at top. Thanks for quick response.
@ZipZapDIY5 жыл бұрын
perhaps the upper strut mount is bad and binding.

I have clunking/rattling sound at slow speeds in the front and rough roads ... culprit most likely links? Are the bushings on the link or its a separate part? Appreciate the video...
@ZipZapDIY4 жыл бұрын
the sway bar bushings are underneath. your clunk could be any thing in the suspension. last time I had clunk during straight and level driving, it was worn out struts.

Never in all my years have I seen an old one come out that easily, even on a car where they were only installed 6 months earlier! useful video but rather misleading.....

@@jcgms7352 to be honest it's probably possible in a dry US state, certainly wouldn't happen on UK or European roads after a winter of salty roads
