Hey MM, Great video, looking forward to following this to fix my "can of marbles". My sound started under the passenger side, it got worse with time and now sounds like the rattling can of marbles is right dead center of the console. When the car is jacked, wheels off, i put her in drive, slowly let the wheels roll, hit breaks, the entire motor and tranny jerk back and fourth several inches. Pretty sure these mounts are my problem! Looking into the torque mounts too now. Thanks again for the vid, the comments were super helpful too!

What were the symptoms of a bad transmission mount? Would it cause engine vibration and a thump and put into drive?
@miragemechanical4590

Yes it could cause both of those things. In my case, i heard a 'growling' kind of nose when i would increase or decrease speed. It kind of sounded like a can of marbles was vibrating while i was driving around.

Not so much physical vibrations, but very noisy inside the car while driving around. But vibrations could definitely come from bad motor mounts. Especially if both of the ones i show in my video are bad.

Take a look at the belt tensioner pulley while the engine is running. If that's bouncing quite a bit you may have a bad alternator causing the vibration. Other possible causes are vacuum leak, dirty MAP sensor and old spark plugs. Is your MIL on?

Hi, I have a problem, when I get in and get fast clutch makes a pounding and when I make quick changes of speed it does too. But when I drive slowly and make slow speed changes, it doesn't. Do you think it's the same problem you show in the video?
@zackeryholtz5569
@zackeryholtz5569 3 жыл бұрын
It’s most likely a transmission mount yes. This is for anyone other than this guy that has the same question since this was posted over 7 years ago. Reason being is that when your shifting gears as you are saying the mount I torn so your not getting the rubber to stop the noise/control the vibrations. If you shift slower and drive slower then you would have less of a problem.

Mirage Mechanical new parts has been installed for two weeks now. Drives much better and the clunk from the old Mount is gone. It still has a clunk when you come to a stop which I believe is from the CVT axle. There’s play in the axle and I’ve done little research and found it to be a C-clip inside the CVT... who knows!

You really should replace the entire mount as a single piece. The first time I did this job, I tried to do what you're asking and had to have it pressed in at a machine shop. The guy told me it was a real PITA and he ended up damaging the rubber in the mount. I ended up having to replace it again a couple years later.

None at all. The battery was out the entire time the the ECU was disconnected, so the ECU didn't know it was disconnected. The ECUs from this era (2007-2012) aren't very technical by today's standards.

Great video. Very helpful. How did you get the round rubber/metal part of the transmission mount out of the large bracket that bolts to the body? Or did you? It looks like you might have replaced the transmission mount and the large bracket that bolts to the body. I was able to remove the mounting bracket that bolts to the transmission without removing the large bracket, but was unable to free the round rubber/metal part of the mount from the large bracket. Even tried pressing it out from below using a jack. Appears to be frozen good. Any suggestions? The options I have thought of are cutting the round part out of the bracket, either with the bracket still mounted to the frame or removed from the frame. Thanks!

The first time I replaced this mount, I did it the way you're trying to do it. I had to take it to a machine shop to have them press the old mount out and the new one in. It ended up weakening the rubber, since they had to press on the rubber side to get it in, and the mount failed again about a year later. This time (the one in the video), I bought the entire mount as a single assembly. I linked to the part in the description. Toward the end of the video you can see there is a difference with the new part in that it doesn't have the oval hole where the airbox sits. I suggested zip tying piece of rubber there, but I did nothing for mine and it's been fine.

It's better to purchase the whole brand new piece that fit your car in the nissan dealer, only cost 114 dollars with out giving them the VIN # of my car, 306 plus tax giving the dealer the VIN # of my car, later funded up the product fit to all nissan sentra 2.0 from years 2007- to 2012.

why? A zip tie instead of the OEM bracket? Why can't you just replace the rubber transmission mount with just the 2 or 3 bolts below the air box? They look like they are 2 separate pieces in the vid.
@miragemechanical4590
@miragemechanical4590 5 жыл бұрын
The part that is missing the holder for the airbox is what the transmission mount is press-fit into. You can buy the smaller rubber mount part and press it in to the larger part, but it's more work and no guarantee the new part will fit the old. I did it this way the first time i did this job and the rubber mount got ruined, and is the reason i went with the complete assembly the second time.

I don't specifically remember, but i just took a look at that part of the video and see one hole is about 1/2" deeper than the other, so it would make sense that the bolts would be two different lengths.

You can't just change the small mount on the transmission instead of getting both new ?
@miragemechanical4590
@miragemechanical4590 4 жыл бұрын
You can, but you still have to pull both pieces out of the car, and then get the 'small' piece press fit into the large piece. In fact, that's how I did this job the first time, but the shop that did the pressing for me mangled up the rubber mount because there's nowhere to get a good seat on the rubber. I suspect that this compromised the rubber mount and is why I had to do this job again 2 years later.
