@@PeterFeltersnatch852 you dont need to drain oil or coolant. The only coolant than comes out is whatever is in the reservoir jug. So have a pan ready that can hold a gallon when that leaks out. Change the oil after your're done. Total time for me was 10 hours but if I wasnt making the video I would have had it done in 8 hours. Now that I've done it I could do it again in 6 hours. I would never-seize all your bolts and a light copper spray on your manifold gasket, makes it easier to ever get off and reuse! Copper nuts are 1-time use. Most bolts you took from top can be removed from bottom. You showed the wastegate moving and loose. You can heat the linkage arm in the turbo red hot and smack it closed! Probably could have saved a lot of work? If turbo vanes were spins freely? Clean with carbon cleaner or carb cleaner. clean all the rest with carb cleaner or oven cleaner. Been there done this on VW Jetta Turbos. Unless turbo vans are hung up? Just heat the wastegate linkage in turbo and Re-Set it! The video is pretty good though. YOU DID IT! Saved a Ton of Money!
@CarsandCoding4 жыл бұрын
I only heard of the heat up and bend method to fix the wastegate after I was completed. Other people have fixed it that way or by replacing the bushing and wastegate flapper with a new one. I still have the old turbo so I will fix it someday so i have a spare when this one gets loose.

It can be done in one day. Put all the nuts and bolts in ziploc bags and stay organized. MAKE SURE YOU TIGHTEN THE COOLANT LINE BANJO BOLT BEFORE INSTALLING THE TURBO. There is one banjo bolt that is near impossible to tighten while turbo is installed. it is the coolant line that you transfer from old turbo to new one. Tighten it on the workbench. If you forget to tighten it before bolting up turbo, you just increased your install time drastically. It can be tightened with turbo on, but it's a Chinese puzzle. Other than mistakes like that, should be 6 to 10 hours depending on your skill. Not replacing cat will cut 2 hours off. Getting it done on a Saturday is definitely doable! Good luck!

Another great Audi video, thanks. Looks like I need to do this now too and this will be my step-by-step guide. Am thinking I will have mine rebuilt, rather than buy a used one. @CarsandCoding5 жыл бұрын
I do not recommend test pipe without stage 2 tune. When you put the test pipe on you will get a CEL and there was no way to get rid of it, I tried o2 spacers and they did not work for me. Also the exhaust will smell like old school 1960s cars. Which I like but not everyone does. With the Unitronic stage 2 tune I am very happy now, but I'd probably be just as happy with the stock cat and stage 1 tune. The test pipe is louder, but not a lot. You can hear the 'fart' with each shift at 5k rpm or so. Glad you liked the video! May all your projects go well!

Did you have to clear the check light engine with a VAG or something or the light went out on its own? And what oil did you put in the turbo? Engine oil? And do you have to? I’m not getting the catalytic converter P0420 code, just P0299, still thought I’d ask, I don’t have to put in the test pipe right?
@CarsandCoding4 жыл бұрын
The check engine light will go out on its own once the turbo is replaced. But you should get a code reader they are very cheap just to clear codes! Yes you put oil in the turbo to prime it. It is not necessary I guess, but why would you not do it? You do not need the test pipe, just use ypur current catalytic converter. The reason I used the test pipe was to be able to put stage 2 tune on it, which I later did. If you use your stock catalytic converter this job is a LOT faster! You do not need to remove the cat, just the 4 bolts holding it to the turbo
@EJR204 жыл бұрын
Cars and Coding thank you. What cheap code readers would you suggest apart from the good ol Vagcom. And I don’t need to take out any of the oxygen sensors since I’m not removing the cat right? Also when you switched to the test pipe you got before you went and did the stage 2 tuning, did it change anything power wise or torque wise?
@CarsandCoding4 жыл бұрын
@@EJR20 best code reader to get right now is Obdeleven. It connects to your phone and you can not only clear codes but also update settings and look at data real time. It is around $100 I think. Other than that any $20 code reader can clear codes. As for the catalytic converter it would be best to remove the front o2 sensor just so it is not in the way but not necessary. The test pipe gave no increased power with stock tune. It is a little louder, but not worth the hassle.

@CarsandCoding5 жыл бұрын
It's probably possible to bend the heat shield out of the way to get to the exhaust manifold nuts. Did you try jamming a t40 torx bit into the heat shield bolt allen head like I did? Put the t40 torx bit in there and hit it with a hammer and then it will turn out.

Hi. Please, answer, when you install new turbo to car, what bottom hoses are connected to turbo, and what hoses you connect after install turbo to block? Today i try to install it. I connect turbo to block with bracket and oil drain hose, and i cant to connect bottom water hose.
@CarsandCoding4 жыл бұрын
You have to connect the coolant/water line on the turbo before installing the turbo. And make sure it is tight! You are going to have to take it back off and put that water line on. :( Every line that was attached to turbo when you removed it needs to go on the turbo before you install it back. And double check they are tight as that water line is near impossible to tighten once turbo is back on but it can be tightened if you use the bit and a wrench.

@@EJR20 you need to look at the wastegate and see if its loose. Or reach your hand down and grab the actuating arm like I show in the video and see if its rattling. If the wastegate is bad then you are not making full boost. You can keep driving it like that you just dont have full power.
