The wheel fell off of my Husqvarna Lawn Mower. I had to replace the wheel bushings. I replaced them with a set of ball bearing bushings. These never need grease, and should be an improvement in the mower.

Hi Joe. We live on an acreage (bush block) in Northern New South Wales, Australia. The wheel fell off our Husqvarna ride on, the same as what had happened to you. We live quite a way from the nearest big town & didn't want to take the mower in on a trailer for repairs. We spoke to the mechanic in town & had the spare parts delivered, but had no idea how to do it. Thanks to your video, the wheel is back on & the paddock is now back to looking like a park. Thank you so much for doing this wonderful Community service. You're an absolute star. Thanks mate.

For the factory setup with bushings, I like to jack the front up and let the axle hang when I lube it. Then the grease can get to the bottom side of the axle better as that is where most the friction actually happens. You can tell by looking at the lube pattern on old worn bushings if you grease them right before removal, after they get worn a bit, the lube we pump in just flows at the top of the axle and then straight out the gap at the top that develops between the bushing and axle when the weight is on it like normal. With the wheels hanging, the extra space/ gap is at the bottom and then the lube goes to where it’s needed between the two at the bottom. 👊

If you pry out the inside rubber on each bearing you can grease the bearings through the zerk and they will last even longer if you keep em greased.When you pry the rubber off you will usually notice they are not packed with much grease.

Replacing the bushings is only a small part o the problem. the main problem is a tiny little e-clamp isn't strong enough to hold the wheel on.
@jaxturner7288
@jaxturner7288 Жыл бұрын
Hard to say that when the retaining clios don’t actually break or fail. They simply get removed, when the bushings get excessively worn from use or neglect and ignored well after they begin to get sloppy, the wheel starts flopping around on the spindle and eventually catches one end of the e-clip and removes the snap ring from the shaft. The clip wasn’t too weak and it’s more than capable of supporting the loads it is dealing with when used in this application and the components involved are not excessively worn. If component and shaft fitment is within spec, I’m sure a 3/4” e clip can support more shear load than the entire mower weighs. Look it up if you want. The bushings are wearable items and intended to be replaced well before they get that sloppy. If maintained properly this design can function properly without fail for decades, as evident with this design using these same components have been around and used for decades already and they have served people very reliably. At least serve those who SERVICE them reliably they do.

Too close for a jack....I recently had a young teenager put the new tire on..I knew there had to be something to hold the tire on..but he said..no...Other riders I've had has carter keys..guess I'll need to find one of these e clips..and possibly the kit you spoke of..Thanks Joe (& Gail)..I'm sure I can tackle this job after watching your video.

Just a question..I'm NO Expert but shouldn't you have replaced the bearings in those big housings and not just put bearings in? It looks like they provided more support to the wheel on the axle than just a bearing or two. I Don't know the answer so my question.

@@StBernardAcres Then why are lubrication points installed: one inside the wheel near the center and the other on the axle? Why are the tractor operating instructions instructed to lubricate them? The bearing cannot be mounted with a hammer because it is vulnerable.
@michaelrutledge8130
@michaelrutledge8130 3 жыл бұрын
@@saldainis55 I've been a mechanic for almost 25 years now. I've been double master certified for more than 15 of those years. I can say without a doubt that saldainis55 you have no Idea of what you speak. Wheel bearing and seals have been installed with hammers since there invention. Installation tools have come along to protect said parts however no tool is truly universal. The easiest way to install bearing and seals is to use the old one as the template to beat on it as was shown in the video. If you use the old bushing and line it up with the new bearing force is transferred to the outside race and that is perfectly safe. Its also common practice to lube items when you install them as was shown to help overcome initial friction. As for the lubrication point ie grease zerk on the machine yes by all means if your using oem parts continue to use it or if you plan on removing the protective plate on the bearing that makes it service free then your good. Since St. Benard Acres kept his protective covers on its fair to assume that he doesn't intend to service them. And since this is a modification of course oem standards will change. I.E. no grease in fact if he were to fill the cavity with grease all he would accomplish is forcing the bearing out of place. Thank you St. Bernard Acres this was a good video I enjoyed it thoroughly.
@jed2055
@jed2055 2 жыл бұрын
@saldainis55. No mate, you are getting ahead of yourself or behind...whatever. This is an upgrade. Joe said that at the start. Bushes require greasing at regular intervals. The sealed bearings are pre-greased and sealed at the factory. Push them in using the outside ring using even pressure all round; a calibrated bashometer is good for that as Joe showed. Also they almost fell in. Now the wheels roll more freely, less friction means more power somewhere else right and bearings/wheels will probably never need maintenance again. No more bushes to wear out. Truth is in a top of the line mower bearing wheels would be factory built in. You could have replaced the bushings with new ones Joe but went that extra mile. Good job imo.
