Hi . I have 535d and I need to do these stem seals . Do you only have piston at top and the valves dont drop to far to allow replacement or is there a trick I'm missing ?

Compressed air in combustion chamber. So the valves don't drop in.

NO! Don't use metal tools to pry them up! You will score the shaft! And why use screwdrivers to push back down? Cover the ends of the shafts before you push the seal down and lubricate them! AMATEUR!

How do you keep the valve up?

This is just a guess but it makes sense to me, in order to keep the valve up, you'd either turn them on your crank shaft with the right size socket and a breaker bar, or, you would turn them electronically with a remote starter switch.

@@tomcat3084 I used on my valve seal replacement small diameter rope and filled the cylinder with it ,I guided it in the spark plug hole .

Where did you get the tool

You can fill the cylinder with air via the spark plug or the glow plug, this will keep the valve in place
