Part 2 of 4 videos on fixing the gas pump shut off early problem. Likely there is a problem with the "evap" system which commonly fails on Chevy Tahoe and Suburban from 1997-2006. Check engine lights and issues putting gas into the tank where the pump clicks and won't allow any more gas are common symptoms of an evap system issue. My vehicle is a 2005 Chevy Suburban LTZ, 5.3L Flex fuel, 2WD.

I'm about ready to tackle this myself and have been watching other DIY vids, but I love how detailed you are. No one has mentioned the carbon pellets. Also few detail the hose removal like you have. Thank you for those very helpful hints. My plan is to replace all the same EVAP components since I have a 2006 Silverado with the 6.0 & 153K miles. I'm gonna be doing most of the recommended tune-up items & look forward to learning more from any other vids you post. Thanks again for making these jobs a bit easier. I appreciate it!

Welcome! I felt the same watching other videos - they didn't cover the details well enough so I decided to cover it myself! Glad you found it useful Shane! Thanks

As I screamed at that darn connector, I only have two hands and two screwdrivers with a third to pry that puppy off. But couldn't have done it without ya. My eyes lose focus from the cement driveway to the connector so it was so hard to know if the screwdrivers were doing the job. THANK YOU for showing us 'the 'way'.

Thought let you know, your video on evap canister was very helpful! I have 05 Tahoe, almost excatly same underneath. I would have ended up cutting the hose's if not for your detailed showing of getting clips over that lip! You do a great job on filming & explanation on all of it. Thank you! Saved me alot of time today and new parts

I got a 05 suburban few months ago with 130k miles on it. It's got the same problem, pump shuts off and after driving for 10-12 minutes gives 'tighten fuel cap' warning. I changed the vent solinoid but it didn’t fix the problem. Now I'll try changing the canister and purge valve. Thanks for sharing these videos, this has been so helpful. Also want to change the gas cap, just to make sure, will appreciate if you can give the link from amazon which will fit properly. Thank again.

If those don’t work it’ll be a fuel line has chaffed against something and that’s where the leak will be

You do not need to drop the tank. You can vacuum the lines out with a shop vac from the big line with the white head that connects to the canister.

I did that, but I don't think you can get all the carbon out the lines that way....i did it your way and still having the same problem. Now I got drop tank.

Do I need to open the gas cap so air can flow through if I use this method? Any other tips before I try it?

I just finished watching your video during your video you mentioned that those lines the airlines that go to the canister are full of the little black charcoal pellets, but you never indicate on how to take those charcoal pellets out of the line they don’t belong there and I think it’s going to continue to give you some problems. Do you have a different video showing how to remove those pellets from the lines? God bless you brother waiting on your response. ✝️✝️✝️🇺🇸

Replace my fuel pump I just chopped a hole under the back seat. Hammer and chisel easy. That way I can just open it back up again to blow up my lines. 2005 Yukon 1500 5.3. Far as I know it's exactly is a suburban or a avalanche.

Thank you for explaining those damned evap hose clips. I've got my new canister and was under there looking at the stupid things, taking photos, and figuring out how I'd break them. I'm working on a 2003 with a 6.0 liter 233000 + miles. Whatever happened to rubber hose with clamps? Is that too easy?

Did your canister come with any packaging? Mine had no packaging at all, which I thought was really weird for a supposed Genuine GM part...

2006 suburban. Pumping fuel is fine, no loss of power just a strong smell of fuel after driving at the rear of the vehicle. Any thoughts on which component is most likely the issue?

Need help and you seem like you have the Evap knowledge locked down on these! Had check engine light come on, had a evap smell after driving for a while. Replaced the vent valve, reset the light and it still hasn't come back on about 10 days later (about 120 miles) but im still getting a evap smell. Don't have any issue with filling, not idling rough, gas milage is the same it always has been. Should I just go through everything or is there something I could pinpoint

Hey Nathan, I've been battling this issue on my 05 suburban 5.4l. Had the evap canister replaced (more than once), just had the vent solenoid replaced. The engine light is finally off (so far) but it still won't take gas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Two other things I'd check: 1) the purge valve located on the engine which it sounds like you haven't replaced yet; and 2) cleaning the air lines that connect all the evap pieces (tank, vent solenoid, canister, purge valve). My lines where stacked full of carbon bits with will restrict air flow and cause the light to come on again.

Can the evap system be by-passed?
@Killian665
@Killian665 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can delete the whole system with a purge valve block off plate on the intake from ICT Billet or a number of other companies. You’ll also need someone to turn monitoring for the system off in the ECU with HP Tuners or something. You can then remove all the lines and just run some rubber vent lines from the tank with a little breather on the end wherever you want.
