Before disassembling the motor, use a sharpie to mark a line that extends across all of the parts. When reassembling, all you have to do is line up the marks. This saves time for the novice who may get confused about the orientations of the parts and have to figure out how they should go back together. Also, show the dirty parts! People need to see what they will actually be seeing. And while this may be a 5 minute job for you, my dad will manage to turn this into an entire afternoon! Never underestimate the ability of the non-handy to screw things up.

This is one of the best instructional video clip on KZbin. Now that the trick is explained, it is almost trivial to swap out the old fan assembly and replace it with a new one. In fact I was able to do it within a couple of minutes. However, if you plan to clean the fan assembly and put it back as shown in the 2nd half of the clip, I'd recommend one thing - when reassembling the motor, proper tightening of the 2 long screws dictates how smoothly the shaft will turn. If the shaft does NOT turn effortlessly, tighten one of the long screws just a hair more, a small adjustable wrench works great. Thanks again for a clear and crisp instructional clip that helped immensely !

Outstanding video - great overhead shot plus no music or useless logo flashes usual bravado. Gold standard for videos. I have moved alot and frequently find the bath fan is so bad that it does not work at all or just hums not even turning or squeaking. After utilizing the home warranty that came with a past home purchase, I found that the warranty (insurance) company charges $100 deductible per incident. Thus if there were two fans in need of service, the homeowner would have to pay $200 to have them fixed under the warranty. So when the second bath fan just hummed, I took the grill off to find it clogged with dust and debris. Without removing it, I vacuumed it out, lubed it and got it running fine. Thanks for a great video, I did not realize that the motor could be removed without taking the housing off. You have just opened up more options to get the three inoperative fans in my current home running again.

Yes that smoke it hard to get rid of. You probably have some in the HVAC duct work if the smoke was real extensive. Possibly the Evaporator coil has got it too. Cleaning this fan will probably help, but it's mostly pumping air out instead of in, so it might not make a lot of difference. But if it was me, I'd clean it too.

Was ready to go buy a new fan by matching up this old one. Decided to vacuum, wash everything first.Used lubricant. Couldn t get plastic fan off though. Didn t want to break it . Anyway, put everything back together. Plugged it in and it was quiet again. My wife s happy and it was fairly easy. Thanks for the tips. It s nice to see that a little maintenance quiets an annoying noise and saves you $15.00 .

Thanks for this vid. I live in an apartment and I have to replace a bathroom fan that doesn't work anymore. I'm glad I can replace the motor without having to dig the whole assembly unit out of the ceiling.

If you live in a apartment doesn't the maintenance staff do that kind of stuff?

Thank you. This was very helpful. My shower fan/light was squealing (when it would run at all). I looked at what it would take to replace it. This is an old house, and the size is non-standard. It was going to take a $200 fan/light, and given my age and the installation conditions, another $150-$200 for installation. Mine is much different from yours, but your video prompted me to try to remove the fan from below. I was able to, and I was able to disassemble the fan and lube it. The grill was also clogged with decades of dust. Works MUCH better now.

So if you want a newer quieter fan, do you measure the old one before you buy the new if this is even possible to do. Talking 30 year fans. Thanks
@TheHomeImprovementChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yes I would do that. Or take the insert out and take it to the store with you. If you can't find anything that'll fit, it's possible to buy a new fan and swap the motor itself onto the old housing
@MarkWilder684 жыл бұрын
This was a lifesaver my friend for some reason on all the new style Motors the prongs are reversed two screws go up and the fan shaft goes the opposite way for a whole different housing so cleaning it was my only option and now it's working like a charm thank you so much.

That's excellent! I'm glad you got it going. Some guys were giving me a hard time because the video was almost 10 minutes long, but the 2nd half is for situations just like this.. so I'm glad I was able to help someone.. :-)

I learned the hard way how easy this could be after tearing out the old fan, housing and all, just to see the replacement was the same. Basically plug and play.

I was at a job and someone was doing exactly that and wanted me to finish the job. All they had to do was pop out the old one and pop in a new one! That's what gave me the idea for this video... :-)

@@TheHomeImprovementChannel I tried searching for a replacement fan, but it seems that the fans are model specific? Will this www.homedepot.com/p/NuTone-70-CFM-Replacement-Motor-Wheel-for-695A-Bathroom-Exhaust-Fan-C370BN/202191735 work for all fans?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel4 жыл бұрын
@@shinyam75 I don't think there's any fan that'll work for "all" fans. This model is a very common fan, but doesn't represent all fans. I have swapped the motor itself sometimes when I can't get the housing to fit. So that may be an option for you.
