Replace your VW FAN BELT in under 30 SECONDS!!! 🤯⏰

Replace your air-cooled VW fan belt in less than a minute with this nifty little trick! No more spending hours taking the pulley apart, you can do it on the fly too! The only tools that we used for it were a giant pair of scissors to cut the old belt off, and the key to the bug to crank it on once it was in the right position. Of course, it would have beenote simple if my starter was actually working, so I decided to tackle that problem first 😅 now I have a working starter AND a new fan belt. Whew! The Dust Buggy has been seeing some love lately 😁👌 It's probably about time for some other projects to get some love around here...

make sure to check it when you roll it on to make sure its not too tight or too loose. Also there should be a total of 9 shims on the generator or alternator either side of the pully. otherwise it will crack the pully. The 9 shims can be on either side or both side. but there needs to be a total of 9.

I remember having to smack my starter with a hammer every time i wanted to start my bug. I ended up push starting it everytime i wanted to go somewhere. Eventually, I replaced the starter, and it was life changing lol

I was almost as bad haha didn't get to the push start phase before I gave in. It was so easy I should have done it much sooner 😂 I needed to grab the hammer before and after getting to work on Saturday morning, that was the last straw for me lol

Very true! For $60 on a Black Friday sale, I went the lazy route and figured I would replace the whole thing. I figured I might as well if I'm going to the trouble of taking it out anyways. It turned out the shaft of the starter was really wobbly, probably an indication that some internal component was failing

How does it take hours to change a fan belt? It takes all of 5 minutes with a crescent wrench and a screwdriver if you don't have a belt guard.

I asked my engine builder about it and he said to put the clutch in when you start it. I see what you are saying, but I'm just following my builder's advice. You are free to do as you wish with your own Volkswagen, that's the beauty of these machines! I appreciate the concern
