Replacement Hakko FR301 Arrives in the Workshop. But Does it Work?

After last weeks disappointment I am hoping for a happier unbox of this Hakko FR301 Desoldering Gun.

Congratulations man. Things go sideways but inevitably (or hopefully) they go back on course. For all the desoldering you do having the right tool is a must. Enjoy the time you work with it and the time it gives back to you.

I too thought that my desolder station was broken until I found the rubber seal on the floor, easily done. CPC have the vacuum glass kit with all the parts for £2.45 thankfully if I lose it again.

My £100 "cheap" moo gun is, frankly, rubbish. It has less suck than my granny (there's an image!), I go through all the steps you described, massive risk of delaminating the pcb, or my hands, or everything else on the bench, and still end up resoldering it and using the hand clicker (to the extent that I just use the hand clicker now). Plus cleaning it (it ALWAYS needs cleaning!) I'm in fear of that glass tube breaking when you reinsert it, with consequent blood everywhere, wound contamination etc. So I'm definitely interested in your full review. And while I don't want to spend 400 on a Hakko (I haven't got 400, lol), I'd still be prepared to spend a bit more on something that's better...

I’ve seen no end of problems from other videos with the duratool or equivalent I’d just go straight for the HAKKO. Buy cheap, buy twice.

You may want to look at getting Hakko C5046 along with a few more Hakko B5193 tubes for quick changing nozzles.

It's the same thing with my chinese desoldering iron, the glass tube is hard to remove, the suction isn't that great, the heating element is far from the tip so I need to crank up the temperature to 450 to even get it to melt solder on the tip and the nozzle gets blocked often needing to pry with a metal rod to clear the blockage. I usually combine it with a hot air soldering iron in order to put some heat into the joints to be desoldered. I use flux to get it to melt crusty old joints. It works but it isn't as straight forward as your Hakko. I used the coin trick, instead of that metal thingy on the filter I put a coin that just fits in the spring about half way. Most of the tin will hit the greater mass and solidify instantly and keeping the filter much cleaner. It has more suction that way. I don't use it that much to warrant a bigger outlay on desoldering tool and I also use low melt solder, sometimes in combination with this tool and I can get by. You would think hakko would have some quality control, at lest to extent that the products heat up. Everything else would just be plain negligence. If the item is shipped from the amazon warehouse it's likely amazon has recieved it and just re stocked it.

I learned the hard-way also for some company not to name one to target thems. for warranty claims . because my item was sold by an unauthorized seller "third party, even fullfilled by amazon" the manifacturer/company refused my RMA for a an item that was 2 years warranty. yup carefull with amazon and third party even if this is "prime" and fullfilled amazon company who own the product can decide if they take the warranty or not. altought for hakko i would'nt even try sold and ship by them they'Re not in hakko website as official seller/authorized, altought its not only by third party seller i received faulty/opened and used unit sold as new this is a big problem right now. cheers good video!

I ordered a phone from A and it arrived having been re-sealed. I took a look at the fastboot(BIOS/EFI) and it was partly inaccessible/splash screen then regular boot. This made it look like the firmware had been tampered with. A had me ship it back to the seller, the last place it should have gone that's the policy.

The only time I buy from Amazon now unless I really know the 3rd party is to buy from Amazon only. I don’t like the way Amazon works though with warranty stuff as I’ve always found it really confusing if 6 months for example has gone by.

I had an issue with a dashcam from Amazon after 9 months when it said my return period had expired, I phoned customer service and reminded them about the consumer rights act, I received a replacement the next day.

For the cost of the tool, that stand is cheap rubbish. Did you open the plug I would be interested to know if they are cutting off a moulded plug to add a UK one. I wonder if it has the correct fuse also. It does work a lot better than my £150 and is smaller also with no base station

I dont use Amazon after a taking to a friend who worked at a "fulfilment centre". Also, JB is a knobend.
