agreed very helpful video brother. I read your reply to Drupal Santana and I think I'm going to do exzactly that. I'm going to use the multicolored led strips and make all the lights on my center console and dash and anything else I can find all controlled via remote. or better yet controlled by any smart phone that has IR. Controlling your cars interior lights via your phone.... thats jus the coolest shit ive heard of. look out for the video ill post it once I'm done and giv u a shout out for the idea. cheers

Do u live in the socal area? Was curious if ur willing to possibly walk me thru maintenance on my car because I wanna learn more about my sc. However I doubt most mechanic shops or places would allow me to participate in the repair or maintenance of my own vehicle due to liability and insurance issues. Thanks

Sorry, but times have changed since my days working on the SC. With a new busy schedule, I just don't have time for anything these days. Learning about your SC is easy and there are a number of countless tutorials just on the 2jz on the net and you could always ask questions on Clublexus. If you can turn a wrench, then you've already won half the battle.

did this years ago, got my display back, lost my backlights. Anyone know what pin is the backlight voltage pin?

How long did the soldering portion of this job take you ?
@strumpeteer8 ай бұрын
I really don't remember (that was 8 years ago lol). It didnt take that long but it went rather quick as you can see in the video that the first 20 or so pins were done in one continuous shot. If you change the playback speed to 0.25, that should give you a ballpark idea. Thanks for watching.

Have you ever tried to put in a RGB strip instead of just the bulbs?
@strumpeteer5 жыл бұрын
No. Many RGB strips and accessories are cheaply made in China so the reliability for the long term is questionable. These "stick on" adhesive strips will also fail and dismount themselves from their position after a year from the heat. My Lexus deserves better than that.

@@strumpeteer Oh ok, I was thinking about putting some RGB's in mine, but now that you mention the strips being cheap, Ill just stick with different color bulbs

I'm wondering if I can replace mine on my 92 ES300? Its pitch black now finally, while the rest of the car has thousands of thousands of miles left to go... Anyone know where I can find the LCD for my Climate Controls screen please?
@68pishta687 жыл бұрын
A+ bro, that was bugging me too! The 92 SC didnt have a plug for light harness, it was 3 soldered wires...:-( Another tip: Use small side cutters to cut the old LCD leads off, and then gently pull them out while soldering the other side. I tried the sucker and the wick trying to free the old LCD and neither did a satisfactory job. got mine all back together and then had no backlight....?
@strumpeteer7 жыл бұрын
Thank man! Cutting the old LCD off with side cutters as you mentioned is definitely the best way to go. (I still needed to suction out the old solder to open up the hole a little more though.) ...didn't know the 92 SC's were slightly different- nice to know. No backlight? bummer. Recheck bulbs with a 9V battery? Cold solder joint? hmmm.
@68pishta687 жыл бұрын
my bad, I went back in there and determined that the socket was broken and the PO soldered the wires straight in. resoldererd bulbs..still no backlight...
@strumpeteer7 жыл бұрын
Your guess is as good as mine. At least as a last resort, you can always reroute the bulbs to a switched 12V source using a relay.

I don't mean to sound like a wimp but how much would you charge to fix mine if I removed the A/C control unit and just shipped it to you?
@strumpeteer9 жыл бұрын
+Mark Evans I'm flattered Mark but I'd rather not do that (being liable with the slight chance that something may go wrong). If you lived nearby however, I'd be more than happy to walk you through the process for free ninety-free.

+strumpeteer awesome job! you have no clue how much I appreciate the video. I literally searched the internet for a detailed walk through for hours and here it was on KZbin the whole time! I'm planning on using a purple or blue led strip to illuminate my lcd screen, just hoping I can easily tap into the old bulb's spot for power. although it would probably be alot easier to just change the bulb for a purple one hahaha. from one sc300 owner to another thanks again
@strumpeteer9 жыл бұрын
I'm glad the video helped you out. Not only can you just add purple or blue, they make adhesive LED strips with a series of bulbs that can be programmed to change to any color you want and whenever you want via remote control. ...and why stop there when you can use the the extra LED strips to illuminate the climate buttons as well as the stock radio unit- if you still got it. :)
