This 45-year-old gas furnace is still running great, but the blower motor finally died. Hope this furnace can hold up for at least a couple more years. *Please leave a 👍 and share the video!* 👉 Visit our website ► DIYApprentice.com 👉 Click to Subscribe! ► bit.ly/2pEBg3m 👍▬▬Follow Us on Social Media▬▬👍 ✔ Facebook ► bit.ly/2pAY8S3 ✔ Twitter ► bit.ly/2G7mRDz ✔ Instagram ► bit.ly/2ILEKII 🔧▬▬Tools and Materials▬▬🔧 ✔ DIY Apprentice Recommended Tools and Materials ► bit.ly/2T5psFw ✔ Wago Lever Nuts ► amzn.to/3HqBvWt 📷▬▬Video Equipment▬▬📷 ✔ Camera used ► amzn.to/2GcpkOb ✔ Lens used ► amzn.to/2Deu16S ✔ Tripod ► amzn.to/2GbaM1c ✔ RAM Suction Mount ► amzn.to/2Wz9PXh ✔ Cyberlink PowerDirector ► bit.ly/2jTwGxT ✔ Adobe Photoshop ► bit.ly/2V7nyUX ✔ Camera Slider ► amzn.to/2WtD7GW ✔ Deity V-Mic D3 Super-Cardioid Directional Shotgun Microphone ► amzn.to/2LI1lf7 **This video was recorded in 4K resolution, so modify your settings accordingly if desired for better image quality** Disclosure: This video contains affiliate links, meaning, at no additional cost to you, I will receive a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

The soldering is super well done. I'd wire nut and run!

Yes, it wasn't too difficult. I'm surprised the furnace is still running so well, but we'll probably try to get only one more winter out of it. Thanks for the kind words.👍

We live in Seattle too and changed a similar-vintage furnace for a heat pump. Don’t regret it at all but wish I’d known before that (a) old craftsman houses don’t have much insulation and (b) Knob-and-Tube electric won’t suffice. The heat pump struggles a bit on super-cold days because you cannot simply throw more hydrocarbons at it. The AC during summer is a total boon tho….last summer our house was ~15 deg cooler than next door. Long story short, if you are replacing your furnace… consider heat pump but do plenty homework first.

True confidence: he completely reinstalls the blower and closes up the furnace before testing whether it will run when he turns it on.

😀 I was certain of the issue, since I'd been messing with the furnace for a couple weeks. It would have been best to show a test, though.

Is this safe to connect the ground to an impromptu hole drilled in the motor housing? Do we know for sure it's grounded well externally? I wouldn't want to get electrocuted later on when touching parts of the furnace.

Fair question. Furnace blower motors of this type that I've seen are typically grounded to the housing. Testing with a multimeter to confirm is probably not a bad idea. I've seen 5 ohms or less as ideal resistance. I'm at 4.0 ohms: bates-electric.com/how-to-test-for-ground-with-multimeter/

You can try oiling the motor to stop the squeaking

I briefly discussed finding the part at the 6:36 mark. Google searches help with cross-referencing for alternatives.

The wiring will depend on your furnace motor. I just matched the replacement motor's wiring to the original based on what was specified @ 7:07.
