As those of us who work on our own cars know, the details of BMW's can vary depending upon the year/model and the type of headlights, Halogen vs. Xenon. My US spec 2010 328 sedan has halogens and the process is identical to the video except, the bulb is very different which affects the installation of the bulb. There is a funky cage around the front of the bulb. This snaps around the ends of the plastic rings to provide the light. But when you remove and install, it doesn't just pull out, and can't be just pushed straight back in. To remove, you need to remove the right screw and then the left, pivot the unit counter clockwise slightly then remove by pulling back. To reinstall (this was a pain) you need to position it, insert the left screw almost all the way, then pivot the bulb clockwise, then tighten the right screw. Hope this helps anyone who has a similar bulb. Problem is there are so many variants it's hard for any one process to apply to all.
@juanjoseosoriomartinez54002 жыл бұрын
YES...it has a little lent in front the bulb...You need retire the lend and put the new one..

Well - I just want to say Thanks a million, i have watched your video multiple times before pulling the trigger and buying the $45+Dls bulb and installing it my self. The dealer would charge $164 for labor only. So I saved that cash thanks to you.... A pain in the rear for sure. Mine was the right side, which the panel that covers the wheel has a sensor of sort. This is on a 2008 - 335i. Remove the cable to the sensor to remove the cover completely and i had access to the area where the little black housing for the bulb resides. Thank you again for taking the time to create this video.

@timgriffin3859 жыл бұрын
if you only require to do the passenger side i.e Air filter position you can remove the Air filter housing and access is easy enough
@theuniversechannel2310 жыл бұрын
Great video - very clear. I started looking at doing it on my 2006 325i - opened the wheel well access panel and confirmed that was a non-starter, thought about getting it jacked up (this car doesn't even come with a jack since it has run-flats) and the whole wheel well cover removal, then tried to access it from the top by removing the air filter. That almost worked; not quite enough room to get the top clip disengaged or for the torx wrench. At that point I resigned myself to the $200 and I put everything back together... and... voila!!! The halo light came back. Moral of the story - just fiddle with the wires and the bulb case first. I'd rather be lucky than good anytime.

Thanks for the video very nice. If you're the kind of person that gets frustrated though, get frustrated and save yourself 200 dollars and don't the risk of a BMW dealership garage denting your car in their workshop and listening to them deny that a fresh dent was there before they did any work. BMW dealerships have damaged my car on two occasions, so if you have to take your car to a BMW dealership I strongly advise that you get the garage manager to check car for any damage, BEFORE they do any work. Predominately this is the ideal job for an apprentice mechanic, who could not give a shit about your nice car.
@carquestions8 жыл бұрын
Its a fact - 50% of the time you take the car in - they don't fix the problem, or overcharge or damage it - the other 50% they get it fixed - so in my opinion you risk little even if you do screw it up

I did notice some of the insulation on the connector is worn so I might wind up having to splice in a new piece of wire. Have to love BMW. One hour job to change a lightbulb. I had to replace the pump on the window washer fluid reservoir. Pretty much the same type of job, instead of going forward for the lights you back for the reservoir on the passenger side. Buried inside the fender. Not being a pro-mechanic and moving slowly as not to break anything it was a 2 hour job to replace a 5 dollar part. I think BMW designers do most of their work at Octoberfest. Still can't wrap my head around a $75 lightbulb though. Aftermarket here I come.

I did the windshield washer pump on my 2010 Audi A6... pump is at base of fender behind the drivers front wheel. If you take the tire and splash shield should take about 10-15 minutes. Actually fairly simple logic. Pump it at about the lowest point of pump below the low level sensor. Pump had crack in the housing $20 US at FCP Europarts. Don’t try to fight the wheel you will lose. Take wheel off and make it a quick job.

Great video. One thing I have noticed as am driving my 2006 bwm 330 at night, the left head light blinks sometimes. Do you know why this is happening?
@stephencannon31405 жыл бұрын
I have this issue. The weird part is the bulb seems to work. It doesn’t work when initial power on hit works when headlights are full on. Just for troubleshooting I swapped the Halogen H8 bulb from right to left. Message came up for the Left Daytime Running Lamp/Parking lamp fail. I believe Isolated the bulb and hopefully can just be replaced behind the headlamp assembly frame. When out on errands tomorrow I will get the Bulb assembly and see how it goes. If that doesn’t work then I will go to this step and pull tire.

Dude... Although I've not changed an Angel light yet (have replaced main headlight.) I found your video to be great! Right to the point; great presentation. One comment: Next time please add the part number(s)... I can purchase these parts from many sources in the US (ECS Tuning; Bavarian Auto-Parts... to name a few) Thanks so much! I have a 2008 335i Coupe. I have done all the work myself including an elect water pump / thermostat replacement as well as expansion tank, Spark plugs and coil(s) replacement. I was also able to replace the crankshaft position sensor for USD $60 (Dealer wanted USD $1850+++) and most of my day (driveway job; did it from the bottom; all KZbin showed was from the top... I saved 5 hours at least and never broke a plastic intake part. Anyway... thanks for the straightforward video... Aloha... PS: My wife had a momentary (5~10 seconds) cockpit / dash waring light that seems to relate to an exterior light in-op (most people lean towards the tail light. All our exterior lights work. She ran over a bump just prior. Could that jolt make a light blink on and off? Should I address it... Just asking... Thanks again... Gene

good illustration. I changed it for $10 for each light bulb. Here is the trick. ..... brake from the end as you were thinking just to replace the inner bulb, not with the housing (that is why they charge you so much ). I went to couple of auto stores and found one(NAPA) selling it (not all of them do ). I actually bought 20w instead 10W, the original. It is brighter and nicer. Once you put the bulb in, just use super glue to touch around the egde. It was like new. Then put every thing back. I relaced both for $20. Otherwise they will not be even brightness, left and right sides (one light bulb for both angel lights on each side ). In the future, if these light bulbs goes out, change them both for $50. Someone did it, nice led. Look for GENSSI Elite Halo Angel Eyes Bulbs For BMW Headlights on Amazon.

If you're lazy or just don't have a jack this can be done without removing the wheel. I didn't feel like wasting time dealing with it and it wasn't that difficult. Just turn your tire inward or outward depending on what you need to access. Only part that may be trouble is removing the casing that encloses the bulb and the right torx screw. Also you can get the bulb (part number 63117161444) for like $35 online. Works just as well and doesn't produce an error code in the computer system.

few things to point out. depending on the year and what frm (module that controls the lights) sometimes the angel eyes are not the dlr and the inside bulb closest to the grills will be the drl. the bulb you changed is the angel eyes bulb and there is one on each side of the car. also if you are going to spend 70 some bucks on a bulb you may as well go buy the led upgrade bulb at any car light store for 99 bucks and then you will have the nice white angel eyes instead of the yellow.

+Sebastian Ravinet After checking this again it appears this is to speed installation at the factory - you can clearly see a mating hole for the push pin so durring assembly at the factory this pin goes in first to hold it up while they install screws possibly at the next station down the line

So i have a bmw 530i e60 2006, my front lights are kinda dirty,i heard that they can be cleaned but it's harder than i thought, since your channel is all about cars and replacing and installing car parts, do you mind uploading a video of how to remove the front lights? the whole front light, so that it could be possible for me to clean the inside of it. Btw your Channel is one great channel for a beginner like me, keep it up👌👍

I regret buying a BMW, when i needed to replace a parking light on my Ford it was only £15. Now with my BMW i just got quoted £120 and watching this video its beyond what i can do on my driveway.

Ezek you can do this without removing the wheel. Just be patient

I replace halo light using your directions, a snap. Got it done in 45 minutes so very happy with. Before I watched your video I attempted to change it to no avail. I mistakenly took the alignment control, which I initially thought it was the light, I put it back but car computer tells me right light is not running the alignment cycle. Any advice on how to re-install this? thank yiou

Is this the procedure on a 2009 bmw 3 series 328i hard top convertible?
@carquestions6 жыл бұрын
Might not be - check your manual - if it says how to change it then follow that - if it doesn't mention it or says go to the dealer then this procedure might work

On a 2008 BMW 550i with Xenon and Adaptive headlight, the daytime running light is burned but the assembly where it attached to and the interior ring came off as well. How do you replace the assembly since it is burned! Appreciate your feedback to solve the problem.
@carquestions5 жыл бұрын
It was burned by someone incorrectly installing the bulb - whole light assembly needs replacement in most cases

The manual for the US version (they are parking lights here) says pop off the large cover and reach in and pull the bulb out. I believe the manual is in error, the 06 is an early car, built 8/05
@carquestions9 жыл бұрын
Only way to know for sure is to check under the hood for the access panel - if it has one then you can do it from under the hood

I am looking to upgrading my headlights and was wondering about what to replace on the halo lights when they go out. Thanks
@rudybeteta72508 жыл бұрын
That's your recommendation...I guess I wasn't specific enough. I was referring to model, type and make? Thanks..
@carquestions8 жыл бұрын
After you look at all the model features types and makes - get the one with the best warranty - thats as specific as I'm going to get

thanks... Helps a lot... but also a little frustration... in my BMW E46 it took 5 min. to change this bulb :-(

good job, I went to BMW , they actually don't care about doing that for me. Cuz all I ask is to replace the halo bulbs.
@michaelshuler33492 жыл бұрын
My daytime running light on my 08 335xi is a H7. As far as my halos go, I'd like to possibly change to a light blue color.
