Thank you informative and to the point close up camera work makes it very easy to see. I'm just taking the first steps into watch repair. I've got a lot to learn and people like you make that process possible. Thank you

Thank you this. But where part 1?

I was thinking the same thing.

I'm watching this because after taking apart, cleaning and reassembling my first watch, after reassembly the balance spun nicely but pallet fork didn't move. Upon closer inspection the roller jewel was missing. Looks like this watch will never run again because this is way beyond any ability I could ever hope to acquire. I see your hands shaking in millimeters, mine would shake right out of view. I think I used too much detergent in the ultrasonic solution and dissolved the shellac. Pallet jewels might come out next.

Ultrasonics can be the death of weak shellac. Even though I have a 4 jar machine, the pallet fork and balance still get hand cleaned. I feel the pain😀

To reduce hand shake, make sure your hands are well supported - find something to rest the sides of your palms on and if possible your fingers too so that there is minimum of your hand free to move, but you can still work - curl your fingers so they all rest on each other to give a solid base. Properly supported, shake will be minimal. And be relaxed - a deep breath followed by breathing out gently during fine oeprations can help. A positive attitude makes a difference too :-) you can do it! You'd be suprised how much the shake dies down :-) Good luck, and give it a try - there are plenty of watches out there to gain your skills on, and the failures are a source of spares.

This is a great tutorial but that part thats cracked never touches the fork.

That’s true but remember in in watch repair everything matters. You wouldn’t know if the jewel had been weakened and have a crack running through it that might split apart down the road. You would never want to leave it like that.
