This weekend we weren't cleaning dead emperors' ears, or melting copper to make exotic bronzes, or any of the other stuff we normally do. Instead, we had to replace a leaky radiator on a car! 😁
We made the video a sort of how-to, in case someone searches for "how to replace the radiator on a 2003 Mazda Protege5", but it is basically a blog type of video. If you need more detailed explanations, leave your questions in the comments below, please. 😊

I have no use for any of this knowledge but listening to you explain things and watching you work is just so soothing 😊

I love old cars. Is it an antique or just 'old' old like the Mazda in the video? 😉

Holy crap, man, is there anything you can't do?? Wow. And kudos to you for filming all that, too--it must have at least tripled the time it would have otherwise taken you!

Thank you! I'm not good at cooking. Or dancing. 😉 Three times is indeed about as long as it took to get it done, but I was also in no hurry. 😁

Did the replacement today on my 2003 Protege5 with manual transmission. Got a Denso 221-3506 part, which is specified for automatic transmission-equipped vehicles but supposedly works fine in my car. I just left the lines capped as they were not needed. The catch? I couldn't use my existing (manual transmission) radiator cap. Had to go to auto parts store and buy a radiator cap for an automatic transmission. Wild.

Yes, for some reason sometimes the radiator cap isn't sold with the radiator, for... reasons, I guess! 😉

I am wondering: Is there something that you are not able to do? Your videos are like Easter eggs! 😊Great job, as usual, Fox! 👍

Kinda amusing to see you working on something as mundane as a more-or-less contemporary car. ;) Still nice to watch. How long does a replacement like that take usually (disregarding any extra time you encountered to make sure to get the right shots for the video)?

Took me 3 hours, but I was filming, and not in a hurry at all! 😉 I reckon I could do it in an hour if I really had to.

Hello. There is a thick hose at the top and bottom of the radiator. There are two thin hoses on the underside of your vehicle, what do they do? not in my car
@SculptyWorks
@SculptyWorks Жыл бұрын
Hi! Those are the transmission fluid lines. That model has a radiator inside the radiator, to cool the transmission fluid.

@@halildemir If you have a manual transmission, your car won't have those lines. If the new radiator comes with rubber caps, you can plug the metal connectors with them - or just leave them uncovered.

Yep, used to be a big car guy, back in the day. 😁 I don't have any more car videos planned, unless I have to work on one and figure I might as well turn it into a video too. 😉

Is it possible to remove without draining it?
@SculptyWorks
@SculptyWorks Жыл бұрын
Possible? Yeah, but once you disconnect the hoses it's going to make a mess, and if there is liquid left it's going to be heavy, so you REALLY should drain it.

i have a 1997 protege and last night I only had time to take the radiator out the hoses were a pain to take out especially because of rusty bolts but putting it back should be pretty straightforward right easier putting it back in than taking it out ?
@SculptyWorks
@SculptyWorks Жыл бұрын
I think putting it back in should be a bit easier, since you've already found where everything goes, and cleaned up all the rusty and grimy bits that make the job a bit of a pain. 😉

@@SculptyWorks quick question if my cooling fan worked before repairing and now that I put the new radiator in the fan won’t turn on is it the fuse that isn’t making it turn on what should I do to make it work ???
@SculptyWorks
@SculptyWorks Жыл бұрын
@@00P1UM5 Double-check and make sure everything is connected properly, and that you didn't nick/break any of the wires when disconnecting and re-connecting things. And you could test the fuse but it shouldn't have blown unless something arched or you got a short somewhere when moving things around.
