Never ever shorten the videos!!! I love the length and it’s very therapeutic to have a slower paced video, plus easier for diy mechanics to follow along. M539 productions and a whole host of other channels do long videos on a single repair just like this and I’ve never disliked a single one

One good tip for interior jobs that have a lot of brittle plastic, turn your heat up all the way in the car and let all the interior plastics warm up so they don’t break as easy
@clinttubeАй бұрын
Good advice. Definitely invest in a set of trim panel removal tools (assuming you aren't a master technician and know where the clips are/exactly how they should work). They are super cheap and although you'll probably use two, max 3 tools for 90% of trim, having 8 other assorted options for those remaining 10% of cases can be the difference between marring your parts or snapping something from over-leverage. Also on the heat thing, you can use a heat gun when you suspect a portion of a part may have had glue overrun or just become fused overtime. DO NOT overdo it, heat expands and makes things malleable, but especially for brittle parts rapid high heat can cause recessed clips that aren't as warm to snap off.

I know that is rare and i probably should make those couple of steps to my bench for the tools but this is something that people may consider when disconnecting only negative terminal

The dash cracking along with the door panels was a common problem and Lexus didn’t do anything about it even though they knew there was a problem. We had this happen on a 2007 LS460 and a 2008 IS350 which were never really fixed. Lexus kept saying that the parts were not available, finally was able to get the LS460 taken care of but the IS350 never got fixed. Fortunately our 2002 SC430 and 2013 GS350F did not have this problem. Best Lexus we had was a 1991 LS400, sure miss that car.

May I suggest since you like using your little screw driver, that you look at getting a tool kit for fixing phones and tablets. They are fairly inexpensive and have many great plastic prying tools that would really help take trim pieces off on these dashes.

As a Lexus, if you ever do remove and break the wood trim bezel surrounding the radio. You can order the same trim piece from a Toyota Prado. Lexus discontinued the wood trim bezel. Honestly the one from the Prado is better because it’s not a wood trim, I believe it’s silver.

Those wood side panels - always pull straight back parallel with the floor of the vehicle. It's tempting to pull up in the direction the vents face and if you do that you'll break a clip. The good news is that plastic takes the gel-style superglue quite well so it's not hard to glue them back on. They're still available through the parts system ($1700 each) but you can't really replace just one - you have to replace the entire set or the wood grain won't match. Which to be honest - on a 20 year old vehicle, an owner isn't going to pay that.

Dash components used to be provided with no colour - black was what I used to see - so it had to go to the body shop for painting. I speculated that maybe they would provide factory coloured ones but maybe when the top up the part supply they only get ones designed to be painted - or in the most common colour (I do not know).
