Thank you soooo much.......Told me everything I needed to know down to the fact the old screws werent phillips head and I needed to know how to get them out. I needed a 1/4" Nut Driver. Also, without watching this video Im not sure I wouldve known about installing the screw on the one side first part. Thanks again.....

Thanks. I feel silly I didn't see that my vents had screw holes in them. They were installed into the drywall and after removing twice the drywall didn't hold it anymore. Your video had shown me there should be vent holes to screw into.

amazing video, I was actually looking to "cover" the heat vent since its summer and little surprises such as spiders keep falling down from the vent into my desk, well this video taught me I can shut the vent!!! like I didnt know it can shut it completely! again thank you!

Repeat process for the 2nd low corner. Take bagged sand or small rock and compact underneath the pad. Use pry bar and block to remove wedges. If the pad sits level you're done, but if it's not you next step is to wedge and pry some more until it is.

This is helpful, and I learned about a tool in my toolbox that I did not know about...BUT what if when replacing the screw does not seem to be grabbing onto the ceiling joist, drywall and god forbid a lip or hinge that already existed?
@Iscaper10 жыл бұрын
You may have to go with a longer screw, a bigger diameter screw, a wall anchor, an E-Z anchor, or maybe even a toggle bolt.
@castillelarkin9 жыл бұрын
Connie Lehman I also have this problem, and I may have to use toggle bolts. But rather than making a gaping hole to get the flaying component through, I'll just cut a line from the edge and slide them in. I'm not sure about using an E-Z anchor so close to the edge of a cut piece of drywall...

If you want to try and tackle this yourself you could take a shovel and dig a small hole under the 2 low corners on the pad. Dig from each low corner of the pad back to the low corner of the A/C unit. Place a wood block under the 1st low corner and pry up with a bar. Careful here, you don't want to break the pad with the pry bar. Pry up past level for the pad and place a wedge under the 1st low corner. (continued)

Does it matter which way the slats in the vent face? A heating and air guy told me the air should be directed toward the wall, not to the center of the room.

Can you also do a video on how to level an outdoor A/C unit that sits on a platform that is not level due to what appears to be settling of the ground? My A/C unit sits on a flat platform and it seems to be sinking as if there is a hole underneath it and it's putting a strain on the hoses that are attached to the house because it's pulling on them as it the unit sinks..I assume that putting dirt underneath it would solve the problem, but I don't know how to keep the platform steady.

I replaced my register in my master bath twice. The second time, I painted over the original paint with epoxy paint and it still rusted. So I found plastic vents online and never looked back.

Mine is screwed into the ceiling drywall but, the hole is badly torn up. Do I just use a drywall anchor there or is there a different hardware for that issue?
@Iscaper10 ай бұрын
I would try a self drilling wall anchor.

Where did you buy that 10x4 vent ? What was the manufacturer ? Mine was a 10x4 but the new outside vent frame was a little bit bigger and it did not come with a sealing gasket like the old one. I had to drill a new hole on one end for it to mount
@Iscaper10 жыл бұрын
I bought mine at Home Depot.

What should I do when the vent is stuck. How or what should I do?
@Iscaper2 жыл бұрын
If you're trying to remove the vent and have the screws out it might be wedged in the opening. I would take a flat blade screwdriver and carefully pry one end out, then the other end.

Hi. My new register doesn't cover all the broken up ceiling pieces (face should be another 1/4" wide in all directions). What can I do do make it flush with the wall and not show duct gaps? Painted think plywood wood underneath? Thanks. It looks ugly with gaps. There was 40 years of paint buildup.
@Iscaper4 жыл бұрын
It would be nice if you could find a register with an extra wide flange, but I've never seen one. Since you said it was plywood is there a way you could glue some thin strips of wood into the opening to make it a bit smaller, then sand and paint afterwards? Just enough that the flange on the register covers up the repair so there are no gaps.

ok this is a dumb question but when my cool air is on am I supposed to have the vent closed or open?

Can you do a video on how to tighten or replace the thumb turn lock handle on a sliding glass door? Although there is a lot of info on locks in general, I cannot locate a video or info on the same type that I have..even on the manufacturer's website..I would be more than happy to send you a pic of the make/model that I have on my door. I'm trying to be proactive in repairing/replacing it, because if it breaks, I won't be able to lock my door and it would cause a security issue at my home. HELP!?
@eCom_Amy11 жыл бұрын
Truly enjoying your videos...I do not have anyone to do my repairs/maintenance...and your DIY videos are very helpful to me! Thanks for posting them! Question: Do you have someone holding the camera for you, while you work?? I'm thinking about making my own videos but it would be difficult to do projects one hande, so I would more than likely need a tripod.

How do you change from round register to a square grill, do you need to add a boot to vent line
@nathanf17593 жыл бұрын
Alright here’s one for ya, when you put both screws in and they don’t have a tab or wood to connect with on the other side. Lol next steps please.
@Iscaper3 жыл бұрын
The only thing I can think of is to cut a thin piece of wood that is a bit bigger than the hole. Put the piece of wood above the sheet rock and install the screw up through the piece of wood. When tightened the screw will pull the wood down against the sheet rock and secure the vent.

You don't have a choice in some areas such as basement on slab and/or with cement walls. Also, your argument about placing the duct on the floor can be reversed when you are talking about the times when air conditioning is running, "cold sinks, now you just have all this cold at your feet".
