Do *NOT* pull that PSU board out or put it back in with your bare hands! Doing so will give you a massive shock if your skin bridged the legs of that giant capacitor. If you have heart issues it can be lethal, if not it can still really hurt you.

@@nogueirv Haha, no, I'm in the repair business and an electrical engineer. I've avoided an incident by knowing what a power supply can do to a person lol. The PS2 has a single MASSIVE cap along with a few smaller ones. The little guys would just poke you a bit but that large cap can be lethal at worst and a bad experience at best. Thank you for this video! What is your ps2 model and what’s the brand of the new fan?
@esh924 жыл бұрын
Happy it helped, bud! It's a SCPH-39004, the PAL version. For the fan: i searched for "PS2 Fan" in ebay and a bunch of them came up. Of course you can cut the connector off the old fan and solder it to any 60x60x15 mm fan you can find. The original PS2 fans run on 7 volts. idk if a normal 12v PC fan would work... if i ever try that i'll be sure to make a video. Here's mine: www.ebay.de/itm/Leiser-DC7V-L%C3%BCfter-Interner-Ersatzl%C3%BCfter-7-6-1-5-cm-f%C3%BCr-Sony-PS2-PlayStation/174377146581?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Can i use the fan of an 50004 instead for 39004?
@racerboyo Жыл бұрын
Yes but it doesn’t fit perfectly. Just don’t put in the middle case screw on the back near the fan or you’ll snap the screw peg. I found out the hard way but yes the 50 series fan works in a 39001. The Noctua fan kits on Amazon work the best but the 3D printed fan bracket doesn’t look that great but it’s the back of the console so can’t complain too much.

Hey, i would say the new fan is about 30-40% less noisy than the old one. Can you put in a noctua?
@ArikIkirA3 жыл бұрын
there is a company (TPO) that made it if you are in the US you can buy it on amazon but it is not cheap (35usd). It comes with the holder because the original socket on the console is too narrow for the noctua. It takes 12v which is 5 more than the original which means that in the long run might give problems with the electric distribution on the MB. On the SCPH30000 models might be a solution in terms of noise but not in terms of aesthetics since it protrudes about a cm. Also, if you have a 50000 there are virtually no upgrades because on those models the fan is much quieter (and again this is because the console socket for the fan output is at 7v so it is probably not having the fan spinning at the right speed).
@onuryldz45923 жыл бұрын
@@ArikIkirA But can you put SCPH-5XXXX fan into SCPH-39001 ?
@tyisafk3 жыл бұрын
@@ArikIkirA I just installed that exact mod today. As a 30000 model console owner, it's worth it. The fan spins and pushes air out. Like you said, we'll have to see about long term, but I don't use my PS2 frequently, but that also means the fan is VERY noticeable when I do use it. It sounds like a jet taking off lol. It's actually so quiet that now I can hear the IDE HDD spinning up instead, so I guess it's time to move to SATA and get a smaller SSD to rid that noise.
@ArikIkirA3 жыл бұрын
@@tyisafk nice update. If you upgrade to SATA (with original modded BB unit or compatible "lan port") consider trying a 2.5 instead of 3.5 for the simple reason they take much less juice, and so the console's PSU is not going to full blast pushing the fan to spin even faster registering the HDD consumption. Anyway also 3.5 SATA should not be as high in electric consumption as an IDE. I know about the noise, I had to leave my 30000 because I could not stand it anymore... 50000 is just another level but are not that easy to get :( keep me posted in case you need anything and happy gaming!
@ArikIkirA3 жыл бұрын
@@onuryldz4592 Short answer: you can but I cannot say it would be much better. Long answer: I have done it on several consoles with no problems (all NTSC-J... I mention because here the power is 100V, 20 less of NTSC - the model you mention - and it is half of PAL region). The power distribution line would benefit from a 1.5ohm resistor just before the line of the fan. Huge hassle for very little difference. (Also, the PSU in 39000 is a tank and can resist much worse). Anyhow, 39000 are by far quieter than 30000 so it may be not worth the price of 50000 to harvest the fan. I say "harvest" because if you buy a fan like this one in the video the supplier will probably advertise them for 30k and 50k. The main difference in noise is given by the RPM that is regulated by the MB, not in the fan itself. A noctua is your only way to stay on the 39000 (that according to many is the very best); I personally have a 50000 in my setting, after I have been across all models and I can tell you that imo 50ks are the best providing a good balance of pros and cons along with great usability and accessibility... but that it is a matter of personal choices for a long time I did not want to get rid of my 30000 (that is when I experimented with 50k fans lol).

@ArikIkirA3 жыл бұрын
@@PBA3000 true, and not only that: the noctua takes 5v more that can give the MB problems in the long run. Also the SCPH50000 models do not need this mod (since there the noctua will just spin for 7v which makes the fan much noisier thus almost indistinguishable from the original)
