Thank you! Love the video and personality! I'm thinking its my clutch slipping, most gears, but only if i want to step on the gas. This video gave great guidance on how to assess and fix if that's the issue. Only one way to find out...

My v star 1100 kept dieing like it was out if gas. Parked at home it had a big oil slick next to it. Oil smelled like gas. Put it on the jack and my clutch lever didn't spring back. Im no mechanic. You think the carb dumped gas in the oil, overheated the clutch and stuck? Maybe gas pushed oil out the bike from being too full? Thanks for the video.

nice video, thanks. there are few to no videos about the xvs1100 clutch plates. im kinda bummed out i bought the full kit rather then just buying 8 friction plates for it though. i already have them soaking in oil overnight so i cant return them, such is life lol

it's best to replace the plates anyway. Usually not needed, you can see wear, or stack all metals together too look for warped ones by being able to see them off of one another in areas rather than all flat and together

Troubleshooting an '05 v star 1100 , 1st and 2nd gear only , a friend says there is a bolt that backs out preventing it from shifting into higher gears , I am little perplexed at the moment as to what he is talking about, I am ready to throw new clutch plates into it ,any ideas what he might be talking about?

Hey I recently did this clutch change and everything went great with it, however I got don’t put everything back together and I can’t get the bike to start now. Is it possibly that I got the bike out of time while doing the clutch or clutch adjustment? It ran before and would start up first try before hand and now it just turns and turns almost like it’s not getting spark. Any info would be helpful, thanks!
@macfly4649

nope , that cant be, how long did the bike sit? did you adjust throttle or anything at the same time? is fuel pump coming on when you turn the key on? Are you familiar with the starter clutch issue on these bikes? Make sure you use proper starting techjnique or itl cost ya 300 bucks to learn the hard way theres a procedure to starting these things. cycle your key a couple times make surwe fuel is primed. DONT TOUCH THROTTLE!!! put choke at 3/4 not full, now hold that start button for at least 20 seconds I REPEAT DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE, if anything move the choke in and out while cranking. IF IT BACKFIRES STOP!!!!!!! hold throttle WIDE OPEN DO NOT BLIP IT!!! hold starter another 200 seconds while WIDE OPEN TYHROTTLE (WOT). that will drain out your carbsand bring in fresh air. biaaatch should start now

Hey geezer moto solid video, just a quick question for ya. I know you didn’t get as far as removing that very last clutch plate that’s held in with that wire spring. But I was wondering if you had any insight on what position that very first plate goes in at. I pulled out all other friction and steel plates and they were oriented like how you said with the sharper edge side towards me, however that last steel plate with the wire was removed and it was opposite to all the others with the smoother side facing me. Is that intentional you think? Thanks In advance
@geezermoto7820
@geezermoto7820 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the last one just sits there, so, you would want smoother looking at you. It basically protects the aluminum clutch under it

So, I just finished replacing clutch kit. For some reason my bike won't change from 1st to neutral when I'm at dead stop and the engine is running. When I'm riding it changes gears no issue. When I shut the engine down I can put in neutral. Any ideas?

shifter at a wierd angle?? you have the toe/heel shifter??? i always find neutral with a quick lil heel tap,, i prefer to run my shifter kinda sloppy, and just tap dance on that baby.******* PS. make sure you dont have to much oil in it!!!!

You have to make sure the clutch fibers, metals and pressure plate all match up and close down onto each other. It's easy to get pressure plate on wrong, with it not butting up against the last fiber
