Replacing Air Valve in Ball Basketball Football Soccer Volleyball

The valve in a brand new Wilson Evolution was leaking so I ordered a valve kit on Amazon for $14 and replaced it. Easy fix. I also decided to swap out all his other valves with white ones for identification purposes. These valves are standard for all sports balls

The way I mark my basketball's wether leather or synthetic is I take a flat head screwdriver and a torch lighter and heat the screwdriver up and burn my initials into it so it's branded into the ball

How are the valves holding up? Pumping up a ball every 2 months or so I'd say is normal.

More like 3 months. All 3 balls in this video are just sitting in the room since he got an EVO. I also put a white valve in that. He started using the Nike Elite for outdoors. So far the valves are no different than what comes from the factory

This will not work on Wilson footballs. The valve is molded to a bladder that is in the ball. You have to un-lace the ball remove the bladder and install a new one.

After reading your comment, I cut three or four tiny pieces of bike inner tube and forced them into the valve thru air needle hole of my Wilson “The Duke” leather football with a leaky valve. Could audibly hear air leaking from the valve. After pressing those pieces of inner tube into the valve, it’s held air for over 24 hours with ZERO air escaping. Can still inflate and deflate the ball. The small pieces of inner tube need to fit snugly into the valve. Will update if they get knocked loose after ball hits the ground.

I wonder if it is the same for a Rawlings football? I just bought a NOS from the 70s and the valve leaks all the air out as soon as I pull the air pump needle out.

That sounds like it will be very hard to remove. You have to make sure you are using a proper tool with a hook when removing and be careful to not push too hard when popping it back in. If you have the hook tool that comes with the kit, you can try to retrieve it. Also, maybe use some long needle nose pliers or tweezers to grab it. This has never happened to me so I can't say what will work best. Good luck to you

I have a ball that looks like they melted the valve. Can that be removed?

I'm assuming so. Unless it was melted onto the leather. But even though it should separate. The valves are made to easily pop in and out with the right tool

@@corraldadventures3982 hi and thank you for replying. No it's not melted to the basketball. It looks like they closed the hole where the needle to pump air goes in. Someone told me to use tweezers to pull it out and get a kit to replace it.

​@@LuisHernandez-rk2tpyou must have a Spalding Neverflat basketball. It's a kind of ball that holds air for an extremely long time. Issue is they cover the valves and if you do remove the cover and refill it, you void the warranty.

This can be done with any ball that you fill with air using a pump and needle. They all use the same type of valve
