GREAT VIDEO!!! Thank you so much. FYI...Petroleum based lubricants (like WD40, motor oil, bike chain oil, general household oil, etc.) eat and dissolve rubber (both natural and synthetic rubber). If you can't get sports ball valve oil, a natural plant or animal based oil is better. Olive oil, vegetable oil, or even butter. This is also why you should never use a petroleum based leather conditioner on a leather ball, speed bag, etc... It works well on the leather, but will dissolve the latex or rubber bladder. Cheers.

I did it with sylicon (the one jelly-like for plumbists). Just push a bit inside the valve, then put some tape on top to prevent the pressure from pushing out the sylicon, and let it dry. Rub gently to clean the ball from the sylicon in excess outside the valve. I did 2 months ago, ball is still working. Of course you have to inflate properly the ball beforehand.

it works well to lube the valve with oil with no air in the ball - you can put your pump pin into the ball (with oil on it instead of spit) and allow the ball to deflate through the pin. Slide the pin in and out and get enough oil into the hole and valve. After a bit, repump the ball and test it again.
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast4 жыл бұрын
Randy Sokalofsky Nice! So are you thinking this might be better than doing the same with air in the ball? :)
@RidiculouslyRandy4 жыл бұрын
@@LearnBeachVolleyballFast - it can help get a little more oil deep into the hole (or perhaps even into the ball side of the valve) when the air isn't pushing the oil back out again (during a leaky valve situation). On a different note, I can't find any oil here in Canada at the moment... is there a recommended safe alternative to 'official ball valve oil'? And lastly, ball valve replacement kits are very inexpensive and work well also. OMG!! I had a 10 year old Tachikara sv-5ws that I just couldn't bring myself to throw away because I loved it so much. But the valve was hard and brittle and leaking like crazy, and the puncture hole looked too big for a small rubber band to seal it. So I tried the larger rubber bands, but none of them did the trick, and it was taking forever to get them to stay in the hole, but the hole just kept leaking even when the rubber band was inserted. I did this all while the ball was semi-deflated. Finally, on my literal last try, I picked this small brown/beige rubber band and decided that since the hole was too big for it as a single strand, I decided to use the rubber band as is without cutting it, and just twist it in as like a double stranded rubber band. Twisting the rubber band and lubricating it repeatedly with some Evening Primrose Oil that I happened to have on hand, and just stuffing it like a turkey without inserting the needle completely into the hole is what I did. The more lubrication, the easier it went in without needing to penetrate with the needle much. Finally when the rubber band was half way through and only 50% of the loop was sticking out, I decided to lubricate the needle and insert it between the loop strands of the rubber band, and pump away. For the first time, I didn't hear it leaking as I was pumping! The next part was to slowly twist back and forth, in a semi-twist motion, slowly removing the needle, and voila. The ball is pumped like new and its holding all the air for the first time in years!!!! I can't tell you how exhilarated I am to see this. Now my volleyball looks like it has a little loop handle on the outside. Quick tip for this though and for those in fear of the rubber band falling into the volleyball the next time its pumped. If you want to ensure this doesn't happen, instead of clipping the rubber band when your done so you can't see it anymore, I taped it down to the volleyball on the side of the valve with some electric tape. Electric tape is the best because its super adhesive and contours well to various shapes, won't come off in water or rough play, and is pressure sensitive. This way the rubber band will never fall in and you can guage how much of the band you need to reinsert back into the ball should the band ever pop out upon re-inflation. Hope that helps!!
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast3 жыл бұрын
Hahahaha amazing!! :) Thanks for sharing! And I like the tape method for making sure the rubber band doesn't disappear in, is the "bump" that ends up on the ball annoying at all when playing?

It helps me a lot Now I have 1 ball, loosing air from around the valve...not from the hole but around the valve
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast8 ай бұрын
My guess then is that it has a hole in the actual bladder, and then the air comes out around the valve so air is trapped between bladder and outer leather and sips out next to the valve if you put the ball under water for example.) The only way I know how to fix that is cut up maybe 5 cm of the leather, pull out the bladder, find the place with the hole, fix it like a bike inner tube, put it back, sew the outer layer together and pump it up. It will leave the ball with some extra stitches but hey, a ball is better than no ball right?

Awesome you got it to work! Yeah they aren't cheap and quite often the valves get so bad that just the lube simply won't fix it. @LearnBeachVolleyballFast6 жыл бұрын
Hello! If you need to pump it again (or empty the ball for some reason), you should try to push the needle next to the rubberband, like inbetween the rubber band and the valve rubber. Preferably with valve oil if you have, or at least maybe some saliva that makes the needle slide better and not stick to the rubber. It works almost every time. The worst thing that can happen is that the rubber band ends up inside the ball and you have to redo the rubber band fix (and you end up having a ball with a little "something" inside it, still playable but people will react to it when they pick the ball up haha.) The second worst thing that can happen is that the rubber band comes out with the needle when you take the needle out, if that happens just redo the rubber band. Did that help? :)

I got some replacement valves to fix my Mikasa volleyball and they worked good. The valves are hard to find, so I wrote Mikasa and they sent me some for free. Do you know where I could get volleyball replacement valves?
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast5 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I have actually never tried to take a valve out or replace on, so I am a complete beginner in that area! It feels like volleyballs are already kindof a narrow niche product, and replacement valves are again 100 times more niche and very low price, so it kind of feels like it wouldn't make sense to sell them in a way, except if you are a big volleyball store and want to be able to serve that maybe 1% of your customers that want replacement valves.. Hahah so that means, I'm guessing you might have most luck by emailing different big online volleyball stores!

I was wondering, where do you buy the valve oil from? I cannot not find it anywhere online in the US without costing 10$ for shipping. However, this video already really helped, as I’ve used the rubber band method. This has happened to 3 volleyballs of mine, and possibly a soccer ball. I ruined one ball without your instructions and I’ve been able to use the rubber band method as a temporary solution for the other two balls Edit: Just saw your note about treadmill belt lubricant. I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks!!

Any thoughts on using pure vegetable based glycerin (very hard to find sport ball valve oil here)? Walmart has this for very cheap. I saw that the original Mikasa valve oil says it's made of glycerin. And the pure glycerin is not petroleum based (which dissolves rubber).
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast4 жыл бұрын
Hmm good question! Honestly I don't really know what glycerin actually is so I don't know what the difference would be between vegetable based glycerin and "normal" glycerin, if there even is a difference, maybe glycerin simply just is vegetable based? That being said though, you are right in that the original mikasa valve oils are glycerin. I think I looked online once and saw that glycerin was available at walgreens and CVS and whatever the pharmacies are called over there in the US (a few years since I visited now so don't quite remember! 😄) So yeah, as long as it doesn't dissolve the rubber then my guess would be that you'd be all good! I think silicone spray can work too. When you rub two fingers against each other with valve oil inbetween it feels sort of slimy but also sort of dry/rough (hard to explain with words?) at the same time. If thr Walmart stuff feels like that I'd guess you'd be good to go! :)

Hey! Sorry for the late reply, somehow didn't get notified about this comment.. Anyway, I don't know if its the same oil is the short answer. Some oils dissolve rubber and some don't, we definitely don't want to put something in the valve that will dissolve it over time.. @LearnBeachVolleyballFast5 жыл бұрын
Hey! It would probably work at least in the short term, but it seems like vaseline is one of those things that will dissolve or make the rubber weaker over time so I'm guessing there is a chance you destroy the valve more after a while, how long I have no idea! :) Google "vaseline rubber compability". There's a guy named Juan further down in the comments here that apparently used olive oil and confirmed I think about 6 months later that the ball was still going strong! @LearnBeachVolleyballFast10 ай бұрын
You just have to be really careful when you insert the needle again to fill in more air. Have preferably a thin needle, use valve oil or at least spit to lubricate the needle, and aim inbetween the rubber band and the valve edge. If you happen to still have rubber band sticking out of the valve, hold onto it while you insert the needle. Hope this helps. In the worst case, you end up pushing the rubberband all the way in, and the ball will forever have a bit of a rattling sound, and you'll have to refix the valve..

@LearnBeachVolleyballFast3 жыл бұрын
Haha I have experienced 3 possibilities: 1. You are skillful and probably using valve oil and are able to insert the needle next to the rubber band, pump, and then take the needle out without dragging the rubber band out. 2. You just go for it and end up pushing the rubber band all the way in. You end up with a leaky valve again as well as a ball with a little something rattling around inside it. Still playable if you fix it with another rubber band but people will wonder why your ball is rattling.. I never let random people pump my fixed balls because of this haha. 3. You get the needle in all right but it ends up pulling the rubber band out with it on the way out. Means you need to redo the fix. Hope that makes sense! :)

Hi, Is it okay for the ball if the valve itself falls inside the ball. It can be fix?
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast3 жыл бұрын
Hmm! If the whole valve somehow goes inside of the ball, I don't really know any way to get it out without damaging the ball quite heavily.. So if that has already happened and there is simply too big of a piece of the valve inside the ball that it becomes super annoying to play with.. then I don't know. I mean it is possible to simply put a knife through the ball, make a hole through outside leather and the bladder, take the valve out and then try to fix the bladder with for example glue and bike inner tube (or simply a bike inner tube repair kit) and then sew the outside leather back together.. But it won't be pretty, quite a lot of work and no guarantee of being able to make the bladder fully sealed. I have done this once or twice.. Nowadays if I get balls that are this bad I unstead make them into medicine balls by cutting the leather maybe a 5 cm straight cut, rip the bladder out, fill with sand and then put some tape around it to make it go together again. Can be useful for some workouts! :) I have also heard of people filling balls with old socks (instead of sand) to make heavy setter training balls.

hi, my ball is leaking from the seams? $60 wilson avp ball that I dont wanna trash. any suggestions?
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast2 жыл бұрын
Damn, is that when you put it under water that the bubbles are coming from the seams? The thing is that the seams is not what is leaking (they always do) but rather the bladder inside, and then the air continues out through the seams.. I have not done it myself but there is a chance that it vould be fixed with some type of "spray in bicycle tire fix" that seals the hole from the inside. What I have done is cut he leather up maybe 3 inches (for example opening up one of the seams), pull bladder out and fix the hole with a normal bicycle tire hole repair kit, then put bladder back in and sew the ball together again. This however leaves a quite ugly stitching on the outside of the ball, might work for your own training but people will probably toss your ball away in favor of another if possible when playing games..

The current valve still holds air so I don’t want to remove the valve fearing I would rip it and not have a new one to install. Do you know company that sells the Tachikara valves? Thanks
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast5 жыл бұрын
Hahaha interesting problem, definately never heard of that one before! Sometimes when you use the rubber band fix method I show in the video, you end up pushing the rubber band all the way in later when you try to pump the ball up, and you also get something that rattles inside.. I never thought it was a huge problem but that half of your valve might be bigger and heavier and more annoying!! However, what I am thinking is that I'm not sure it's a guarantee you'd get that half valve out even if you took out the part of the valve still stuck in the hole..! At least I'm thinking the part rattling around inside will have the same diameter as the rest of the valve, and the hole in the ball where the valve goes is really really snug, and you won't really have any way to "grab" that valve piece that's inside and drag it through the hole, right? Or am I thinking wrong here? Are you 100% sure it's actually a part of the valve and not something else? What I could think of is like a part of the needlw you pumped it with, or mayybe a small stone that would have been stuck in the valve and then got pushed through..? Regarding finding replacement valves, I have never done that so I actually have no idea..! But read the reply to ypur pther comment I wrote some more thoughts in that! :)

it goes through both the panel and the inner rubber bladder (so that it leaks air) or it only goes through the panel (does not leak air yet atleast)? :)
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast5 жыл бұрын
i'll for this assume that it's going all the way through the inner bladder and leaks air: i have experimented with 1. rip up a part of a seam between two of the outside panels. 2. take the inner bladder out through the hole you just created 3. fix the hole in the inner bladder with a bicycle tube repair kit, the bladder is pretty much like a bicycle tire inner tube. 4. put the bladder back in, and sew the panels together. i have no idea how to sew the "inside stitches" that the panels are sewn with from the outside, so the stitches i made became visible. ball was still playable though. this process took quite a lot of time, and the ball has some new weird stitches afterward so people might be skeptical to playing games with it afterwards... if you just have a tiny tiny hole, i'd actually first experiment with some rubber glue/shoe goo/liquisole (different names for a similar product) and just try to fill the hole with glue. might or might not work, but if it works it would be a lot less work and a better result compared to ripping the seam up and stitching it together afterwards!

Since the valve broke into 2 parts, I'm assuming there's a gaping hole where the valve used to be now. If that's true, you could take a flashlight, hover it over your head so you can see into the ball. Take a wooden stick, about the diameter of a toothpick, and attach some sticky gum to the end of it. Shake and center the broken valve pieces in the bottom center of the ball, and insert the stick inside with the gum at the bottom end, and poke the valve with the gum until it sticks to the gum, and gently remove.

Just stay away from oils that dissolve rubber (petroleum based oils I think, but don't take my word 100% I am not a chemist haha!) :)

Air is coming out from the outer side of the valve, not from the middle hole and this method will not work. How do you fix that? BTW thanks for the video.
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast5 жыл бұрын
ohh really? never heard or seen anything like that..! but they do say the valves are replaceable, that you can basically take a kind of hook and just pull the valve out, and put another one there instead.. i wonder if your leaks in that "seam" between the replaceable valve and the actual ball..? i'd probably first try to just put some rubber glue/shoe glue (liqui sole is a good brand at least in europe, i think theres a brand called shoe goo in the states) around where it leaks and see if it fixes the problem.. if not, maybe replace the valve? or maybe figure out a way to get the replaceable valve out, oil the outer side of the valve (it seems like olive oil has worked for people here in the comments..!) and then push it back in, and hope the inside of the valve didn't get damaged in the pulling out process? hahah not sure, kind of just throwing out ideas here!

@@LearnBeachVolleyballFast I am not quite sure where it was coming from. There might be a little hole somewhere there but I fixed it using the glue+water mix injection method. It worked like a charm!
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast5 жыл бұрын
@@henrymakepeace Sounds awesome! So you mixed water and glue and injected it into the valve and then let it dry? Can you still pump the ball?
@henrymakepeace5 жыл бұрын
@@LearnBeachVolleyballFast Yes of course. You put the pump needle first and put the injector in it not to damage the valve. Glue doesn't touch the valve hole at all. Check videos from youtube.

How about a leak at one of the seams? Anyone try fix-flat or anything else?
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast2 жыл бұрын
So if there is air coming out of the seams when you push the ball under water, it means the bladder is broken somewhere, possibly close to the area of the seam where the air comes out. I haven't tried those injectable chemicals (which I'm guessing fix-flat is!), but would be fun to hear from someone who has. What I have done has been to cut up a couple inches of the leather, draw the bladder our and fix it with a bicycle inner tube repair patch, put the bladder back in and then stitched the leather together again. You'll end up with a couple inches of semi-ugly stitching that definitely isn't there on an original ball, but at least the ball is playable! :)

@@spencerkraft3720 Amazing! Ball doesn't feel heavier than before or anything like that? Were you able to spray it in without modifications, or did you need to use a pump needle or something like this?
@spencerkraft37202 жыл бұрын
no added weight but I did shake it around, leave for a few hours, then deflate and squeeze all the foam out. the can has a hose and valve for a car tire like any pump so the needle screws right in without any problem. it adds air and foam as it's meant for roadside emergencies so be careful not to overinflate.

lo siento, no hablo español (¡al menos no todavía!) pero tengo un amigo que planea hacer un canal de youtube de voleibol de playa en español ¿Eres capaz de entender cómo arreglar el balón aún con solo ver el video?

I've been using rubber bands around my wallet for years and I've noticed a wide range in the quality of the bands. Is there a specific type of rubber that we should look for?
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast3 жыл бұрын
Hmm! I personally lack that much experience in rubberbands that I'd have noticed a huge quality difference. I mean sure, some are a bit stretchier and "fresher", some are a bit stiffer. I actually think the quality wouldn't matter too much in this case as it's just for basically putting more rubber into the rubber valve so that it gets tight, but the thickness of the rubberband changes how difficult the job is to do. (Hoever, of course, if you have the choice I'd choose a fresh elastic rubberband over an old and grumpy one..!) I always try first with the thin rubberbands because they are easier to get in, if the ball still leaks after that I'll go through the trouble of making a bigger/thicker rubberband make it's way into the valve.. :)
@fastechsystems4043 жыл бұрын
@@LearnBeachVolleyballFast Thanks. I don't assume that the valve is "rubber" nor that rubber bands are "rubber" or that they are chemically compatible. I want to repair a classic real leather ball not one of those crappy new balls which can be replaced.
