Thanks for the video. Like you, I had to replace a tub spud that was badly corroded and the crossbars were broken off, maybe by the owner. Getting the spud off with a extractor wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (long breaker bar helped). I also didn't replace that washer between the trap and tub since it was really wedged in and I used plumber's putty, pipe dope, and tape. No leaks.

A water softener is definitely a smart investment. Solved a lot of our plumbing issues.

This just opened my eyes to a repair I thought would require removal of the entire tub. Thanks for this vid. I need that tool lol
@MPD-ih6sm13 күн бұрын
What worked for me was to take a hard chisel and create notches at an angle on the edge of the drain. Then with the removal tool and a breaker bar, tap the top of the tool with a hammer while giving constant pressure to the tool counter clockwise, the drain came loose.

Oh my goodness 😂what the hell!! That's what you called bad? The waters they aren't just bad they are really awful looks like you found the water heater on the seaside of the ocean 😂😂😂. Great and spot on job as usual lucky them they got you to sort all that issues. Greetings from UK

I mean this shit ain't rocket surgery so if you've got two functioning hands and a couple braincells still firing in there then you should be able to do most of this kinda stuff

I never take the original gasket out. I just slide it off to the side and let it fall into the cavity then slide the new one in. No muss no fuss. I also use pipe dope between the gasket and the tub. Especially on fiberglass because they can be so rough you end up with a leak.

YOU GOT THE TRIM OUT EASY BECAUSE IT'S PVC. IF THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN OLD BRASS YOU WOULD HAVE NEEDED TO CUT IT OUT WITH A SAWZALL.
@tacklebox6239Ай бұрын
Hey Skippy, pro dope isn’t rated for pvc. You’re weakening the plastic by using that.
@12yearssober9 ай бұрын
So you just left the old rubber seal underneath the drain?
@theplumbersplunger9 ай бұрын
Less than 3 years old but yes, had to reuse it. It was wedged in there and the pvc was at an angle. Couldn’t get it out. I warranty my work for 2 years though. I let the customer know and offered to cut open the wall behind the tub to be able to replace it. They decided to leave it.

Loosen the overflow it should have play. Was it on the 2nd story?
@theplumbersplunger9 ай бұрын
@@jrad6028 No play, tried that. It’s like the pvc was set too high and they just set the tub on it anyways. In a bad bind. It’s on a concrete slab. 1st floor

Mine was worse than that. I ended up having to replace the threaded part of the PVC beneath the drain. Luckily, my house is on pier and beam. I just got tired of looking at that old ugly drain.
