Yes you can cut that curtain wire upto four to five inches away from where it meets up, to get good spring tension. Changed that many net curtains in my time.

You can tell the waters cold he’s got his gloves on. Is that flex heat resistant ? Bit of brown sleeving on the blue wire. It’s not a neutral ? Black clips on white cable ?

The stat you are changing is to control the hot water motorised valve to then bring on the boiler to heat the tank. The stat on top is just to control the immersion element from the electric side only.

Ok cool thanks for watching
@looking91753 ай бұрын
Thats not strictly true. When you have hot water only demand on a 3 port system, the valve doesn't actually do anything - its not involved as long as the valve is at rest in hot water only position. The call for heat goes straight from the cylinder stat to the boiler SL connection.
@stuartbryant85453 ай бұрын
@looking9175 correct. My point was that the immersion stat on the element has nothing to do with the cylinder stat regardless of s plan or y plan.

That "taped up connector" could well be a modular plug and socket. British Gas started putting these on the Pumps and Motorised Valves. As an electrician and heating engineer (yes 55+ service this year) I would have started by testing the operation of the Motorised Valve and the Cylinder Stat but an interesting video and useful lesson that every job is a learning experience.

Why didnt you fix that taped up / joined wire? A few minutes to make a better job.. Go the extra mile!

He needs a heating engineer that’s part of the central heating There is a separate stat in the immersion only regulates temperature when immersion is in use

My water was far too hot and I thought that the cylinder thermostat needed to be replaced. After I had bought a new one I got down to removing the existing one - it was moving slightly and the wire securing it had become loose because the hooks had become disconnected (out of view). Five minutes later it was tight again and working; I now have a new unused thermostat in the tool box. Moral of the story - check the tightness to the cylinder before assuming a fault! (The wire looked OK as it was gripped by a little slot on the unit so I didn't check).

Immersion is for back up of hot water and other on the side of the immersion is a cylinder sat part of either a Y plan or S plan central heating system.
@eastwayelectrical3 ай бұрын
Yep the Immersion is for back if the central heating breaks down. thanks for watching

"A sparky wouldnt do that" your happy to leave it though yeah? A sparky should no the difference between an immersion and a cylinder thermostat though... and understand how it works and why its there..

Use a proper Honeywell box with fixed terminal block wiring has to be mechanically and electrically fixed!
@eastwayelectrical3 ай бұрын
That's what should have been used when the original installation was carried out.
@chas39973 ай бұрын
Yep agreed but sometimes you have to upgrade existing boxes ect because they’re not up to standard. I would have put a safety note to the client saying box lacking sufficient safety & quality of connections. ( the wiring block was floating which is never good 🥶)

That’s where a good sparky would have rectified these badly fitted connections not leave as is.
