Replacing button-fly to zipper-fly on jeans! (hefty alterations)

In today's vlog, I show how I convert a button-fly to a zipper-fly on jeans. This alteration could be done for stylistic reasons or for practical reasons. For example, if someone has mobility restrictions and less control over their fine motor skills, a zipper fly would be a lot easier and convenient.
There are many reasons to want specific alterations done to your clothes but my purpose in this video is to inspire you to know that you can have whatever you want!

Very clear detailed instructions. I am seasoned sewer but never did anything like this before. Son in law brought me a pair of these for rescue after nearly all the studs had fallen off. Followed the instructions exactly and the jeans look as though they were always zip up!!!! I used a 16 denim needle and Guterman jeans thread on top. I did remove the zipper teeth that were under the waist band as my home machine is not as strong as your industrial version and has problems with sewing over zippers. So glad you did this video….

Yes I did like your video bacause now I know that it is possible to put a zipper to a button fly jeans,I had seen and even tried out pretty and perfect pants and jeans but notice that their were button fly pants and had to pass because of it. Really enjoy your video P.S.=can any tailor do this kind of work?

I'm pretty sure that any good tailor can do it but many probably won't want as it takes longer than replacing a regular zipper. Cheers 🙂

I bought a pair of jeans but the fly doesn't open wide enough to fit over my thighs, so I'm tbink of cutting out the zipper, cutting the bottom seam of the fly and make the fly two inches lower, and then ill either have to put a new zipper in or buttons. But I've never done alterations like this before and am afraid of ruining my jeans 😬

@@patriciaaustin5336 it actually wouldn’t be too low, they didn’t make the fly long enough when they designed it. They forgot to account for curvy women (they designed this pair for curvy women too) having to actually put the jeans on.
