Have you noticed that your LR3, LR4 or Range Rover Sport will slip into neutral when it is in drive? Or not be able to shift into drive at all? The culprit is often a seized shifter linkage. Had this exact fault. Followed these instructions but just stripped and cleaned the linkage instead. Thanks for the help! Feels brand new again

I Fink I have the same problem was hearing a rubbing sound so I replaced the diff then was drivin agsin and was getin sum kinda grinding sound no good but the gear indicated on the dash kept disappearing also was kinda hard to get in gear then bringing loads of faults up am booked in garage this months fingers crossed it’s only this :(

What type of Land rover were you driving? I think i have same issue! its 2012 Range Rover HSE. My gear knob is in Drive but slightly slips into Neutral, it still shows as drive but i have to slightly pull it back and sometime hold it in Drive while driving. However, Transmission shifts perfect.

@@johndroc11 I was getting ‘gearbox fault’ and it was popping into neutral when I was driving. Seemed really serious but then ended up just being the linkage. Quite an easy fix too and changing the gear selector is so easy now, shows how much you compensate for it before the linkage is cleaned

Mine is a 2011 Range Rover - also, the fault on mine was 2 years ago and hasn’t come back since doing this fix

Appreciate the video Had same issue jumping out of drive then not going into drive and transmission fault. Removed linkage and cleaned and lubed.Smooth as glass now. Thanks again!

Thanks, did the same today, took about 2 hours total but needed to file off the rust of the internal metal flange. Now shifting is smooth like new.a

I had this assembly "fixed" by the Ottawa Range Rover dealer 3 years ago. I had the exact same fault and the old assembly was seized just as you showed in your video. Is this a new design ? Your instructions were bang on although an assembly diagram would have been useful. Thanks

Had this problem 6 months ago. Took it apart and cleaned and greased it. Reinstalled and it was fine. Now it is doing something similar, not engaging completely into gear. Took it apart again to repeat the process, the anti-seize i'd used seems to have hardened in that nylon bushing so just cleaned everything and lubed with grease. This time it did not fix the problem. Wondering if the cable has stretched, or somehow come out of position with the clamp on the rod and linkage. Will try again tomorrow. I noticed you didn't use a 21mm wrench to hold that metal sleeve when tightening as others recommend. This supposedly prevents over tightening and binding that bushing too much. This is really a bad design for such an important component. Also wondered if anyone knows the purpose of the turn buckle-like cable feature at the grommet connector. (Next to the rod and linkage connection) Is this intended to be an adjustment feature to assure full engagement of the shift arm? It appears to be easily adjustable with a screwdriver, But I'm not seeing any movement when I turn it...Any answers out there?

Cheers for the video, saved me a lot of problems. My D3 is right hand drive so everything is the other way round. All mine needed was WD40, wire brush and a bit of time. Thanks again. D

Ever since I got my 2007 Land Rover Range Rover I have been having issues with my car slipping into neutral. After an extensive long search, someone from Atlantic British told me newer models of my car - do not have a Neutral Safety Switch and this kit would fix the problem. It looks like it works for alot of people’s cars and I thought I would finally get my issue fix, though the kit looks basic and is only about $40. However, I recently got my reliable mechanic to put it on, and unfortunately my car is doing the same thing. So the kit doesn’t work and my vehicle doesn’t have a Neutral Safety Switch… unbelievable. So how do I fix the problem?..

What type of vehicle were you driving? I think i have same issue, My Gear knob is in DRIVE MODE whereas it just slips into neutral while driving i have to pull the Gear knob back and hold it while driving, however transmission shifts smoothly. I am driving 2012 Range Rover HSE

I used some PB Blaster on it and had my wife shift from park, drive, neutral, reverse (with the parking brake on) as I lubricated it. I've heard that some people had this largely solve there problem, but others had it reoccur pretty quick. Should we generally expect it to reoccur in short order?

My 2012 L320 won’t come out of park. The shifter unlocks when I press the brake and I can begin to pull the lever with increasing resistance. Feels like I’m going to stretch the cable or break something. To be clear, I CAN move the lever, as opposed to trying to pull the lever without pressing the brake where it is locked and won’t move at all. Does this sound like the issue in this video? I was about to have it towed to Land Rover to finally give in and take it up the arse and have the chain guides replaced but I couldn’t even do that because I couldn’t get it into neutral! 😂

Hello I have been offered a 2008 Range Rover sport hse it has a fault code saying transmission fault would you have any ideas as to what it is as been told it still drives any information you can tell me would be greatly appreciated

Hi there, my 2001 Land Rover Range Rover, gets stock in parking (it's not the brake light switch) ... It happens often but not all the time, any advice? please!

I'm about to start this repair/replacement on my 2008 LR3 HSE. I have the problem where the transmission won't go into PARK all the time and won't start unless I put it in NEUTRAL. I'm using the trick of manipulating the shift lever through the exposed opening in the coin tray, and underneath the shift lever but it's becoming harder and harder to make it work, get the vehicle into PARK, get the ignition key into the full OFF position. My concern is if there's another problem that replacing this linkage won't fix. I have to get a warm day to do this as in the Northeastern Winter it's not ideal, and I have to do this in my driveway. Let me know if there may be a more serious or bigger issue.... Thanks.

@@ajmarch Yes, it was very simple and easy to do. Immediately solved my problem and battery drain! Now I'm on to replacing the electronic parking brake...

Thanks for the video! Would this also be a potential cause of the shifter being somewhat more difficult to move between the gears? I noticed that happening recently (shifter more difficult to move) and then the vehicle popped out of drive into neutral a couple times after I've noticed the stiff shifter.

For anyone with a similar issue, this was the fix. I first noticed that the gear selector was a lot stiffer to shift between gears. That was the first symptom. Then a day or so later, I usually rest my hand on the shift knob when I drive and I noticed that it would pop out of gear with the slightest of touch. I replaced these parts and the gear selector now shifts very smoothly. I don't know if I could've gotten away with just refurbishing the existing parts, but this has got to be the most affordable fix for this car so I wasn't upset at all. Lastly, the new nut that comes w/ the replacement kit replaces the bottom nut, at least in my situation. It didn't seem like it wanted to go on the top bolt coming out of the tranny and I wasn't about to try and persuade it.

That looks easy but , on my land rover lr3 my shift cable the rubber mount that mounts into horse shoe metal mount has broken into 2 pieces now I have codes , bought new shift cable it looks easy to install , but I like to know information on this issue , one of my codes was 6th gear incorrect ratio , but before I found this shift cable issue , I change transmission fluid / filter with new updated pan , the 4 small tube bushing and bridge bushing replaced all solenoid , but had code 6th gear incorrect ratio prior to me finding bad shift cable, I'm hoping when I install new shift cable fixes transmission problems , too bad not lots of repair videos on land rover lr3 transmission DIY repair , I wished mine was a 6 speed manual life be so much easier

brillant m8 has help me no end same prob parked up fine nect day no gears not properly in drive rod cabel prob scaner snap on verdict show shit in valid solinoids do some thing but linkage not going working properly so onto nect stage st EX OLD AUTO ELECTRIAN MANY THANKS PAL
