The point you made about how companies don't make good quality LED bulbs because people wouldn't need to replace them is definitely true, some of the LEDs from 15+ years ago were very high quality with heavy ceramic heat sinks, glass lenses, etc, and many still work today. It's unfortunate how these days companies prioritize profit over quality and consumer satisfaction.

Quality LED bulbs at its finest! Fun fact: the occasional flashing of the LED bulbs is caused by a bad capacitor(s) in the power supply integrated into the bulb. These capacitors are notorious for going out especially in cheaper models.

Im starting to get fed up of these LED bulbs. Had quite a few of them die recently and yet all my CFL bulbs still work after 15-20 years of use. Also, you are definitely right with how so many of those are dieing even from more reputable companies.

I can completely relate. My kitchen light is 1957 Guth saturn ring light that came out of old school. I restored and installed it in 2006. It uses a commercial 300 watt silver bowl bulb. The light is reflected off the ceiling. The bulb ban messed me up on this one too. I spent a fortune stocking up on bulbs for it. I wouldn't trade this light for anything. The current bulb is a 1956 Westinghouse. It was installed 12/3/2022. This bulb has probably another 2 years. When the electric company did a energy audit on the house, after they got over initial shock of the size of the bulb, the laughing could be heard two blocks away. I just smiled. 🤣

The weakest link in a LED bulb or fixture is the driver. Heat kills drivers. Another trait with cheap LEDs is thermal management. Many of the earlier LEDs had good quality heat sinks and cooling fins. Today’s cheap bulbs are mostly made of plastic and don’t really have a way to adequately dissipate heat. One thing many consumers who buy these screw-in LED bulbs don’t take into account, is using LED bulbs in enclosed fixtures when the bulbs are not rated for such use. There are LED bulbs out there that are rated for use in enclosed fixtures and will say so on the packaging and bulb. Believe it or not, Dollar Tree has an LED bulb rated for use in enclosed fixtures for $1.25 each (originally $1.00 each) that are pretty good.

This is my main issue with LED's. Apart from that and intense colors in LED Christmas lights, I love 'em

This is not the first time I have heard about these issues regarding LED bulbs. I have owned many models of the pathetic LED bulbs (mostly the 60-watt equivalent) and the only ones I can speak of that have survived have been Silvania's. I notice this problem being a prevalent issue with the cheaper makes as well from the Walmart store brand and some other store brand LED bulbs. When it comes to the flicker from theSilvaniaa ones though, I really can't speak on how bad their flicker is but otherwise, those branded bulbs have seemed to be pretty good. I have had some 65-watt ones in my basement lasting for about 6 or so years that I have yet to have an issue with. They are on for a good amount of time daily as well. Something I would look into though. At the same time though, they are like 2 times more expensive than the cheap LED ones that only seem to last a year or two before they fail.

The led lighting just died in my 4 year old fridge. And they are built in. So now when I open the door it strobes for a second and then goes dark. Before the bulb ban went in i bough a whole bunch of commercial incandescent rated for 10k hours. I've yet to have any burn out after years of use.

That’s the same issue I had with my 2019 Whirlpool refrigerator about 9 months ago. I found out that it was replaceable though, so I bought the replacement for it, but it was a huge hassle, much more so than it needed to be. I think replacing it took like 45 minutes, which is about 300x longer than using a traditional Edison socket.

@achannelwithaprofilepictur6253 It it a driver placed somewhere in the back or how did that work?

The main issue with LED's is the poor quality. I am sure quality ones do exist, but the majority of them do not seem to be as such.

LED light bulbs really aren't made to last I say because I have a touch lamp or if it's original bulb on the Dennis setting it lights to flicker randomly so I'm not sure what's going on but they need to still make the older incandescent light bulbs in LEDs better where they last longer I'm sick and tired of cheap junk inequality of light bulbs
