How to Replace an Idle Air Control Valve.
Here is a super easy fix! I tackle fixing my idle air control valve to see if this solves any of my idling issues. I have had really weak idling and sometimes a nonexistent idle so lets see if this helps at all. I have been working on improving my 1993 Dodge van since I bought it 3 years ago.

Thank you so much for watching my videos! I enjoy making them and hope to show my view of my life in an interesting and curious way :) Please feel free to contact me online if you have any questions or comments.
#vanlife Is new to this generation; a counter-culture whose mission is based around the idea of living more outdoors, being eco-friendly, and often times affortable. There are different off shots of this culture that are known as Escapees, Escapers, RubberTrampers, Digital Nomads, Snow birds, Rainbow kids, dirt bags, etc. People live in anything that moves, SUVs, cars, trucks, campers, trailers, bikes, tents, Class A's, school buses, step vans, Subaru's, and more. Some of us ask if others are "full-timers" or "part timers" This just means if you have a sticks and bricks(house) home base or if you have sold everything and are always on the road. I have been full time in my van for 2 1/2 years camping, boondocking, stealth camping, driveway surfing, parking lot hopping along the way. Every place is new and different and I have friends in many states now. The day to day life is interesting and filled with unknowns. I do get frustrated at it sometimes but I find that even after a few months of staying still I need to pick up and keep going. Seasonal and temporary jobs keep me going but also your support of my channel. I don't know if I would be still on the road in this capacity if it wasn't for your support and encouragement. I feel honored to have so many people rooting for me to keep at it! Through trials and tribulations, sunrises and sunsets this lifestyle change has been a growing experience.
Stay Curious!
Karli

You can unscrew the other sensors off of the throttle body. Take off the throttle cable. Unbolt the throttle body from the engine (plenum). Then throw it in a dishpan with dawn soap. Let it soak it hot water. Clean the carbon dirt off completely. While you have the throttle body off, drop a little magnet down one of the holes onto the plenum pan tied to a string. If the magnet sticks - it's the original steel plenum pan at t hff e bottom of the inside of the big silver vacuume cleaner like plenum intake the throttle body is mounted on. If it doesn't stick, it's been replaced with the proper Mopar aluminum plenum pan. Gaskets on the original steel ones fail and leak oil onto the pan because the plenum is aluminum and expands less than aluminum, breaking the gasket seal. They also collect pan oil from a broken PC Valve - like mine was. There's a Mopar aluminum plenum kit for Dodge B250's. About $150. Mine's still a steel pan, but luckily isn't leaking yet. But I'm ready when it happens. A lot of KZbin videos on it.

Your dad would be so proud that you're learning at such a quick raid about Sherry! One question but it has to do with the new battery... Why didn't you change out the battery cables you got the same time your new battery? Your battery terminals are pitted and may cause problems down the line. I'm just wondering. You did a great job on changing out this part

Always makes engine run smoother if you spray carburetor/throttle body cleaner into carburetor and blow out all the carbon. Look into it if you are interested, to verify method and precautions. Engine will sputter and thick black smoke comes out of tailpipe as it blows carbon out.

Chrysler's are cold natured and I learned is a 318 which is what you have has hydraulic lifters and if just one lifter goes bad that's it you got to replace a while yuck sorry didn't know you could turn a wrench so good you can do a little of everything
@nikkufrail1484

The idle air control valve wont keep it from starting. Also, it typically will fail in the open position making it fast idle, not stalling. Hopefully that cures the problem. I would be highly suspect of the ignition system for hot stalling issues, ie. Distributor pick up sensor, ignition coil, crankshaft position sensor. Also, check fuel pressure when hot.. I can hear you have a sticky lifter. Buy a bottle of "lifter free" and add to your oil.
@landontucker5436
@landontucker5436 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely check the crankshaft position sensor. Causes stalling. Rough idle and poor acceleration. Easy to access cheap to replace. Wouldn't hurt to swap the ignition ignition coil seeing as it's only a few bucks and this engine only has one if I'm not mistaken.

The duck with the green head is a mallard{boy-duck} and the other less colourful duck is a drake{girl-duck} they are a couple, you can watch the Mallard/boy to watch out for the other duck. 1993 was the year the major auto manufacturers started putting all sorts of Emissions equipment onto these USA vehicles. Also starting to use Computers etc. The older vehicles before 1993 come with much less Electrical components making them much much easier to work on and buy parts for. It's these earlier years of 1993 to 2000 when you should avoid buying an older vehicle as the manufacturers did Not have the process perfected making these years 1993-2000 vehicles suspect to various electrical failures with all sorts of electrical problems. Either buy before 1993 or after the year 2000. Do your research just dont buy a vehicle out of emotional Want or Impulse. Be practical and again do your research by searching through the web to find the most common faults of each specific vehicle. remember no Automobile ever made is Perfect. They are the culmination of making the Least Possible Product for the Most Highest Profits. They/We could make a car that never wore out for a very small price but that is not how our system we live under works. We live under a system where we get the crappiest thing they can make at crazy exorbitant prices to keep us coming back to buy more and more and more and more. Eventually our system will collapse as it can not generate unlimited unsustainable growth year after year decade after decade. Buts thats another story....lol...

At 2:00 you put a note that it didn't want to start after pumping the gas. With fuel injection you are NOT supposed to touch the gas when starting. Older carbureted engines need you to pump the gas to set the choke and squirt some fuel into the intake through the accelerator pump when cold. Your computer, if pressing the throttle when starting, thinks you are trying to clear a flooded engine and is therefore not giving the engine any fuel. Also, wrap the wires you crimped with some electrical tape to keep them from flopping around. Crimp connectors don't handle vibration well.
@dbrown6936
@dbrown6936 5 жыл бұрын
I think What she meant was after she pumped (filled)up her gas tank as opposed to pumping the pedal and Yes that's great advice to put electrical tape on those terminals . Hopefully it'll start well now before she ends up having to replace the starter! Lol
@jamesgill5511
@jamesgill5511 5 жыл бұрын
@@dbrown6936 If you watch the video of her trying to start the van after having the battery replaced, she clearly pumps the throttle before attempting to start it. Fuel injected engines can be a bear to diagnose if you don't have experience with them. Add in things like leaking vacuum hoses from age and diagnosis is rarely quick. I was a fleet mechanic for a company that had loads of those Dodge vans. Were she not on the opposite side of the country I'd donate some time to help her out. Heck, up until last month I had a spare low mileage engine from my last Grand Cherokee that would drop right into Sherry.
