Replacing LPG Filters on 2004 Saab 9-5

Another attempt to get that thing running on lpg, but spoiler alert, no luck.

Hi, here is a thought. There should be a solenoid valve on the LPG vaporizer body that will open when the car switches on LPG. Many times that valve gets stuck because the LPG gas isn't that clean and with time the dirt will stop the solenoid in the valve to open. It happened to me and of course, I changed the filters and that wasn't the problem. It looks like you don't have enough LPG going to the engine, that's why the engine stalls and dies. There should be another filter/mesh screen where the LPG line goes into the vaporizer. This is a filter for LPG in the liquid state. You might have that filter/screen or not depending on the LPG kit. There was a way I found out quickly if the solenoid valve from the vaporizer was stuck: I drove my car at 3000rpm on gasoline and then I switched on LPG. IT got the valve unstuck for a while and it ran fine after that on LPG until I stopped the engine for a while. I did it a bunch of times like that until it will not go to LPG no more. This might or might not work for you, depending on how much dirt is in that valve and how long the car didn't run on LPG. After that, I removed the solenoid valve that opens/closes the LPG going through the vaporizer and it was so dirty... I cleaned it with some carburetor cleaning spray until the inside "rod" was moving freely. It runs like new now! The purpose of this solenoid valve is to open/close the LPG running through the vaporizer to the LPG injectors. Of course, you have a multivalve on the LPG tank which opens first when the car switches to LPG. Let me know what LPG system/brand you have installed on your car and I can pinpoint the location on the solenoid valve. This will be a free fix + labor :) No need to replace the solenoid unless is defective... I hope this helps. Please let me know! And tell me what kind of LPG system you have! Chris

FYI: I do all the repairs on my LPG system myself because I could not find an LPG technician who was willing/knowing to fix/solve my problems. I even did a complete rebuild of my vaporizer...I was losing power while on LPG and the coolant was getting into my vaporizer because of a rupture in the main diaphragm and I had white smoke coming out of the exhaust... Long story short, check my comment below and I bet that will fix it. 98% sure :) Love the Saab!!!

What was the problem in the end? Did you solve it?

Maybe the new injectors are not calibrated for your engine. I am saying this, because the car runs on LPG using the old injectors, without stalling. So for sure the old injectors ramp are almost dead, but still manage to inject gas into the engine. I would go to the LPG service and ask them to look into the diagnostics and read the data from the new injectors and maybe they can optimize their running. It was an idea from my side.

I was thinking the same thing. LPG computers need to be recalibrated every couple of years with no changes anyway, so an LPG mechanic calibrating the computer to the new injectors and clean filters might work.
