I'm a P3 / P4 guy with an Ebony P3 reso. No muffling. I go back to that everytime. I think it's because I like my drums to function live acousically - un-mic'd, as well as in a studio situation. I like the attack and "bang" that combo gives me, rather than a big punchy sound. I want that bass to cut like a snare.

Thanks for the feedback Dan! Everyone has their sound! I like the punchy kick sound! But I have used the P3 heads in the past … my real favorite is a coated ambassador kick head! That sound very open! Thanks for watching!

Yeah, man! I didn't know Remo made this. Very cool and sounds great the way you have it set up and tuned. Great video!

Yes! Thank you! I guess I missed this one!

I was an Evans guy going back into the mid 80's. Ive had problems with them the past couple years with brand new heads splitting cracking etc., I've even had new old stock heads in my storage that I've compared to the exact same models brand new and there is very noticeable difference in quality now. I've since switched to remo. The muffle ring will give me the freedom to use whatever bass drum head I want now too.

Keith, I havecbeen having issues with the emad heads for a few years. This could be the answer to the emad sound using Remo heads ... so far, it’s working for me. Thanks for the comments and feedback!

I got one. I couldn’t get all the foam strips in no matter how hard I tried. Thanks for the video
@earldrum4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I think I learned that you have to build the foam ring first then put the plastic ring on it and hoop, then tune the drum. That worked my second time! Thanks for watching

Very interesting video, and the end result sounds really good. I have an emad on my Pearl 22 vbx . My Lud has a Remo Pinstripe with no muffling. I've always felt the drummer to where the audience are sat will experience a different bd sound? Interesting square beater too ! Many thanks for taking the time to show us - have a good rest of the day ! 👍🥁👍

Iori Jones thanks for watching Lori! The kit does sound different to the drummer then what the audience hears. Good point! I agree. Have a great day!

This was genius Earl!!!!! I typically go with remo every time except for the bass drum,,, now I know how I can turn an ambassador into an emad lol!!!!!! Great talk Earl! Love this kind of video content!!!!! U rock!

Love this video! What are your thoughts on the powerstroke pro?
@earldrum3 жыл бұрын
Anthony, thanks for watching! The power stroke pro seems to be the REMO emad head! So my first impression is it would be similar in sound. So I think it could be a great head! I’m using a REMO powersonic on my 22” kick and it works great. So I’m sure any Remo version with muffling will be comparable to this effect.

I've been playing Evans EQ4 Clear Bass Drum Head and Evans Retro Screen Resonant Bass Drum Head.

That sounds like a cool combination of heads. I never tried the retro screen head. Thanks for watching! 🤘🏻👍🏻🙏🏻

Great video and enjoy hearing your take on subjects. I am a huge EMAD fan too, however, have felt that the REMO Powerstroke has seemed better for me in recording. This is great content Earl!

Im with you...the only Evans head I truly like on everything is the EMAD. IMO other Evans heads dont work on every drum. For instance I was never able to get G1s to sound good on my old slingetland kit. But with Remos it just sang. Im currently using emperors on my classic maple and have been putting off getting an EMAD because I don't want to spend the money. I didn't even know remo had this...im probably going to pick one up.
@earldrum4 жыл бұрын
The Music Room ... Jeff it’s worth the try to get that EMAD sound on any head. It’s finicky to install, the trick is to build the foam insert first, install the plastic ring, put on the hoop, and tune it up. The Evans way of changing the ring doesn’t work! I hope this helps.

I could never get a sound I liked from a G1. Batter or reso. Never a fan. I loved their old Uno 58 1000's.

Hi Earl! Can I ask you why you prefer using the butt end of the stick all the time rather than the tip? You may have addressed this in a previous vid and I’ve missed it. Many thanks. M🥁👍
@earldrum4 жыл бұрын
The short answer is it’s become my preference, but I will be answering this question on my next Ask Earl Anything show ... I’m filming it this weekend! I have a much longer answer!
@porcaro19634 жыл бұрын
Nice one Earl! I know a few drummers prefer this and I’ll switch around a bit depending on the song. One of the bands I play in is an Eagles Tribute and Henley does tend to use that method to give test fatter sound test he often has. Look forward to your more expanded answer. Keep on rockin M 🥁👍

Been using the EMAD2's on both my sets for a while now. I think they're fantastic. Use the Genera Dry on my snares and Remo Pinstripes on all my toms. I've tried other tom heads through the years but the pins are the ticket for me.

I use the Evans Onyx emad, its a single py coated head, and its the best kick drum head ( IMO) I have ever used ,mine has been on now about a year , I have tried so many from both Remo and Aquarian and keep coming back to the Onyx emad which I am going to stay with, Never had an issue but anything can happen and all tastes are different, Great Video, Your kick sounds awesome, llove 20 inch kicks, loads of punch . As for top tom/snare heads , I agree Remo is awesome never cared for evans on tom/snare .. however I am currently trying Aquarian Studio x clear and wow they are outstanding, Think I am going to stay with them ! Peace !
