Thanks for taking us through your gear/set up. I have the RC 500, but I can never figure out how to use it properly. Really traumatized me when I messed up with it in one of my small gigs. I gots to read that manual huh? Just too lazy I think. I’ve been looking at other pedals but now that I seen your videos I might hold on to them a bit longer and sort it out.

Imagine, if you will, all that money you spend on lower tier digital effects boxes/pedals all rolled up into one expense, which will likely be even less than you spend today. Put those funds in to a Fractal Axe FX III Turbo and put a stop to the endless cycling in/out of individual pedals, upgrade costs, and headaches. You've entered....the Fractal Zone! I got off the pedal board bandwagon 20 years ago with Digitech (GSP2101 and Control1 FC). When they left the rack effect space I went with their floor modelers (GNX 3 and GNX3000). When they stopped support for those I switched to Fractal in 2011 and have never looked back. YMMV, but that's on you. =)

Thanks for sharing this, Lee. I like the Line 6 effects and I’ve been using the POD Go for my live solo gigs, which are mainly acoustic shows. But I also integrate some electric in those shows so the POD Go acts as an all-in-one for both. As you mentioned, the loopers in these units isn’t the best. So I use the Ditto X4 (I’ll often loop an acoustic rhythm and plays leads over that, and sometimes switch guitars, change patches, and play electric solos over that…hopefully that makes sense!). I’ve been considering the Boss RC505 that you have.

Cheers for the comment, Jason. Yeah, the "new piece of gear" I mention at the beginning of the video is the Pod Go. I'm really liking it so far but I am struggling with monitoring in a band situation. I actually chose the HX Effects over the other Helix gear 2 or 3 years ago because I love my valve Blackstar so much but in trying to downsize my gear, I decided to try the Pod Go. With regards to acoustic shows, the amp modelling stuff is unnecessary so the HX Effects is perfect. The looper I'm using is the RC-500, not the RC-505. It's an amazing thing for such a small unit. Would love to get to mess with an RC-600 at some point though, just to see what I could do with it!

one of my favourite things about the HX Effects is the pc app, if you haven't checked it out, it's pretty amazing. I think the HX Effects is honestly one of the most slept on devices out there as far as its routing and switching options go. I finally bothered to link my midi timing from Ableton to the HX and am excited to explore that. It'll be interesting to see if you can incorporate the Shuffling Looper into a standard looper for idea generation.

Hey! Thanks for your comment. Yeah, the PC app is incredible, as is the unit itself. I'm amazed more people don't use the HX Effects (and seem to gravitate to HX Stomp, even if they use a physical amp). It's a seriously misunderstood beast.

Hey Lee, just stumbled across your video as I've been playing with the Helix Native VST in my DAW. From what I can gather the HX Effects is an identical physical version of the same VST. Would you recommend it now you've had a couple of weeks hands on?

Hey Buddy! Thanks for your comment. I've actually had the HX Effects for a few years now. I've never played with the VST, to be honest, but if it's the full Helix software, it isn't the same as HX Effects is the stompbox models only. The amp and cab models aren't available at all. You can load in third party IRs but that's about it. I just got the Pod Go which does have the amps as well but is fairly limited with regards to signal flow. I'll do a video on that in the new year. Hope you're well, keep a lookout for new videos!

I have a helix and it is great for what it is but you can never get the same sound as real amps and pedals that's a fact

I thunk the main issue (and I have the same problem) is that it takes so much longer to fuck about with settings with Line 6 products than using the actual pedal. That means that most people stop at "that'll do". I get you, though. I really do.

Ya line 6 is a great product but I mess with it for days and think I have it dialed in and it sound good but when I play with the band it doesn't sound the same but with my Amp and my pedal board I can dial it in seconds but for jamming at night when everyone is sleeping with head phone I love the helix
