Today I'm discussing my thought on how good the iPad is as a replacement for a computer. It's amazing for EDITING PHOTOS as well as PRODUCTIVITY.
But can the iPad EDIT VIDEO in apps like FINAL CUT PRO FOR IPAD? Gonna have to watch to find out!

Dude! I was the same way. For so long. The iPad felt like the product I’d just use to watch a movie on a plane. But the fact of the matter is there’s so many apps you use on your computer that are so much lore stream lines and comfortable to use on a tablet. The power of the iPad is a hidden gem. Thanks so much for watching man! Means the world you say and watched me talk.😂

if someone need a "computer" at home. it has to be ipad. especially my parent who can't get used to a mouse and trackpad. Parents are just more comfortable using touch screens, apps, rather than typing URLs. Voice typing and searching is just on point in 2023.There's camera for doc scanning or taking random photos. use facetime, messages, whatsapp is also about to launch. Updates are years to come . M2 will last like a decade.

Thanks for the video! It’s an interesting conversation. I have both a MBP and a 12.9 iPad. If I was stranded on the metaphoric deserted island and had to choose, it would be the MBP. The power is there, and the hardware is there, but the developers just aren’t updating the software for the core applications, such as Adobe, Microsoft, or even Apple. The challenges, and for example, not editing just one photo, it’s editing a batch. They just don’t build in those kind of features into Lightroom or any other editor I find. Nothing software-wise feels complete, nothing is easy to do efficiently . Try to save a word document internally to your iPad. It took me 10 minutes to find the option just to get around Microsoft wanting me to save it to OneDrive. I have a M2, MacBook Pro, Max and I left at home for a few day trip recently as an excuse to use my iPad more. I mean, by the time I added a keyboard and the pencil to it it cost like $1600, so I do want to try to use it. Huge mistake. Editing my photos on the trip took three times longer because no batch options. Then, when I do export them at export the photos right next to the original. Then I have to go through a guess. Which one I edited versus which one is the original. This thing is apples, redheaded, stepchild.
@boogidaball
@boogidaball 7 ай бұрын
I hear you dude. But like Steve Jobs said. It’s supposed to be the middle ground between the computer and smartphone. The more complicated and efficient workflows like large batch photos are no where to be seen. But I don’t think that Apple wants them to be seen. They’d rather have that stuff reserved for the more powerful machines. I share some of the issues you’ve had besides somehow not being able to save a word document. I do a lot of document management and have never had a problem with it.

Operating system is strictly a matter of taste... some like MacOS, iPad OS, Windows or whatever else. If your preference is iPad OS, I think 85% of people could use an iPad Pro w/Magic Keyboard as their computer. Now, when you get to the 15% who need very specific software or workflows, them a traditional computer is clearly the way.

People use work machines for computing work such as editing videos and photos or creating 3D renders or animations. These devices are the devices made to do these things so I feel like it makes sense to highlight them. At some point I’ll review and speak about devices like the MacBook Air or other casual focused devices and those vids will be all about web browsing, entertainment, and emails. Thanks for watching!

Good video! Thanks for laying all this out for us. One exception though. You say if a person doesn't have a laptop and they're deciding between a macbook and an ipad, they should seriously consider the ipad? You cannot be serious. Laptops, especially an uber capable one like a macbook, runs circles around an ipad in almost every way. Ipad might be decent as a second computing device, but if you don't already have a laptop, that has to be the first acquisition! I'll grant you the ipad's use of the pencil and touchscreen. And also the portability and comfort of the ipad, but even then I still prefer my macbook for comfort. I hate holding the ipad to use. I can use my macbook without holding in almost any position, slumped or not. Plus I can position the screen at any possible angle so it's ideal whereas my ipad folio stand only has 3 position and none of them are ideal. Plus I don't have to buy any stupid case for my macbook unlike the ipad. And how much for the magic keyboard on top of the exorbitant prices for ipads just to make it come close to matching a macbook? I say fock you to Apple for the ridiculous price of that keyboard. Greedy anti consumer company. Like the biggest, most profitable company in the history of the world has to keep gouging and scamming their customers. Like finally the EU made them use USB-C on iphones like they should have done long ago. How about thinking of your customers' benefits instead of always trying to put a wall up to prevent competition (i.e. what's good for your customers) instead of doing what's right for the world at large just to squeeze out a few more dollars. Or not intentionally slowing down iphones so people will go buy another one. Fock you Apple! (Even though I buy many of their products) I have many iphones and they do many things well like camera, build quality, battery life but they are still like a child's toy compared to what you can do on an Android. But the workflow of the macbook is 10x of the ipad, especially when you consider bettertouchtool for the trackpad and touchbar. Anyway, that's my opinion. Thanks again for the video!

Thanks for watching! Some good points. I’m pretty sure that I mention in the video that the distinction in considering the iPad comes into skill level. I know I mentioned this in a comment a day or two ago. The iPad is a phenomenal starting device for content creation and the pro apps are much more initially accessible. The iPad is also much more appealing to people not already in the tech sphere. I know plenty photographers that do all of their workflow on iPad and I know new creators who are just learning software basics on iPad. It presents a completely different spin on software interaction and that interaction is actually incredibly popular outside of the more traditional tech user sphere. I’m obviously not trading my MacBook out for an iPad anytime soon. But I’d still recommend anyone who needs an all in one creation device. Of course when we get into specs and price id get more specific like “look for this year and sku on Facebook market” or “Check the Apple refurbished site on Tuesdays”. Either way. They all have a niche that enjoys their device and Apple wouldn’t be creating and distributing the device without the market research to back up the investment.
@EXPERTISE
@EXPERTISE 5 ай бұрын
The main problem with the iPad pros at this point is the software. I mean "yes" maybe it can replace some peoples workflow, but the crippled versions of the iPad apps don't really make it an appealing option imo (yet) to replace a laptop, and I honestly don't think it ever will. Apple will be too afraid of cutting their MacBook margins and essentially offering two different versions of laptops.
@boogidaball
@boogidaball 5 ай бұрын
I 100% agree. Everything we WANT from the iPad won’t happen because it would eat up the laptop sales. Like I said in the video though I do think it’s a great stepping stone. While people with experience in these pro apps see the iPad versions as inferior less useful apps I’ve found that people who are new to these programs and workflows find the process to be much easier and more accessible on iPad. I kinda see it as a creative tool stepping stone currently.

Apple is purposely holding the technology field back. They're doing it to maximize profits. We should have a single device that does everything and can seamlessly switch between phone/tablet/PC. The technology has been around for years, but Apple would never do it because their bottom line will get destroyed. They get to sell basically the same device (phone/tablet/PC) to morons three times every single year. Why would they ever care to advance the field and make it more intuitive? The fact is, a current-gen iPhone has just as much power as a full-fledged computer. They should make it so it's a phone, tablet, or computer depending on how it's docked. It's the size of a phone; dock it into a 10-inch housing, and it becomes a tablet or connect it to a hub with a monitor, and it's a computer. It's a very easy thing to accomplish, but imagine Apple losing all that money by not being able to sell phones, tablets, and computers every year. The so-called green company that's responsible for more e-waste and pollution than any other company in the world because they have morons upgrading perfectly good devices every year while selling 30 different devices where one can accomplish the same functionality.
