In this video I diagnose and replace the rear 2 heater / air conditioning (HVAC) dampeners / actuators on our 2004 Lincoln Navigator, this should be the same for the Ford Expeditions as well. Music: "www.bensound.com

That's the main reason why I ended up replacing ours, that noise is annoying. Thanks for the comment!

Both of mine have stripped gears, but they are in the full cold and over head position so I just unplugged them to stop the clicking noise. I don't use the rear climate controls except maybe in the summer to cool it down faster. I believe both units can be replaced or just the gears swapped out by removing the cup holder and storage bin. No need to remove all the large plastic pieces.

I've seen others replace them through the cup holder and I thought about it, but decided not to as my hands didn't really fit very well and I figured this could show how they are actually attached. The actuators on ours seemed to cycle every time we turned on the key and then there's the knowing something isn't working properly on my vehicle that tends to drive me crazy. Thanks for watching and the comment!

Thanks for the comment! One thing, there really isn't any reason to remove top section of the lower black plastic panel. Good luck.

If you don't use the rear AC, you can just unplug the motors and the sound stops. The front motor can be replaced easily by removing the cup holder. The side motor is a tighter squeeze, but removing the top storage bin piece should allow enough room to get tools in there.

Thanks for the video. I have heard that based on the VIN number the shafts for at least one of these actuators may be different. I don’t want to tear it apart to see what the shafts look like and then have to either leave it apart or put it back together until the parts come in. Would you mind mentioning who you ordered the actuators from that supplied the parts based on the VIN you supplied when ordering?

I actually ordered them on Amazon after I located the part number using rock auto.
