So I've had to replace my aux cable on my 2010 civic twice, the first time I messed it up but this second time I followed your instructions closely and it worked like a charm. Thanks man.

Thanks for posting this video! It gave me a lot more confidence in doing the repair myself. The part was easy to find and we got it for around $20. However, I must share my experience with the actual repair, because I had a significantly easier time than you did. I brought my needle-nose pliers and screwdrivers out to the car, ready to tear into the thing. On a whim, I just used the pliers to grab the front cover of the old auxiliary jack. I wiggled left and right while pulling outward. Wiggling must have ended up pushing in those hard-to-reach tabs, and the whole thing came right out. It took maybe 5 seconds, with no screwdriver needed or any scratching. Put the new piece on, tested it, worked perfectly, and pushed it in. The entire fix was done in under a minute. No problem!

This just started happening to my car, 6 years after I bought the damn thing, just like yours, I was ready to break something, I knew if i went to the dealer I'd get charged some stupid price, I searched here and I'm so happy i found this video, I just bought the part off ebay, Thank you for posting this.

took no more than 10 minutes, thanks!!! i did not leave much damage like you did however. I kept prying from the sides, i found it works better with a knife (not kitchen knife). Using the plyers the "roots" came out and i kept at it with the knife from the sides, worked like a charm.

Thanks for the video JJ. Your video was helpful in getting started, but I took the advice of others in the comments and was able to just pull the front cover off and swap the internals, keeping the original housing in place. Works like a champ now, $30 part + time to repair!

Thank you for posting the video and stating the prices as well as the part number. I like video you explained everything in good detail and step by step.One tip on mount like the aux uses it is very damaging to go in that direction. Please try this instead you will find it easier. First verifying the locations of the clips or screws holding the planel in place remove screws the pop the clips once you can reach the back of the plug squeeze the two prongs towards each other (against the parts body) and slide out. It may require more steps but you'll thank me later and you will have no damage to the retaining area of the aux plug.

Thanks for vid. Just a heads up for anyone else with this problem, on my '06 coupe, the only thing needing replacing was the audio input itself, so after popping off the "AUX" cap with a screwdriver and pulling out the audio input with pliers, I just left the "socket" piece in the car. When the new part arrived I just pulled the cap and input from the new one and put them into the old socket still in the car. Takes a little less time and is a little easier on the car.
@gbeihl
@gbeihl 10 жыл бұрын
I figured that would probably work. The 'socket' piece is just a housing for input circuitry.
@bernardoguevara1058

There is a much easier (and way less damaging) way to get this done. It will probably take 5 minutes, maybe a little longer if your'e very careful. Here's what you do: 1) Grab a hold of the cover flap of the aux jack firmly with both hands and wiggle left and right. At some point you will hear a "pop", which tells you that one of the cover latches has been released. 2) At this point, apply some more force to the side that hasn't unlatched itself, while still wiggling and the whole cover should give without damaging/breaking anything. 3) Once the cover of the Aux jack is removed you will see the insides of the housing unit exposed. Take some needle nose pliers and carefully pull out the green chip. 4) On your replacement Aux jack, remove the front cover as well so you can pull out new chip. Insert that carefully (but firmly) into the existing housing unit in the car. 5) Remember to put the little "O" ring back around the jack input opening. (I think it's just a spacer). 6) Take the cover of the replacement Aux jack and snap it into place. 7) That's it--you're done. Enjoy your jams through your car's audio system!

There is an easier softer way: Once you pull the internal component of the jack out (5:20) you can just remove the same part from replacement part and plug it in without needing to get the black shell out. I tried it and it worked.
@Namydna
@Namydna 9 жыл бұрын
I would highly recommend this method. If you take off the cover of the aux port then you can just take out the actual component and replace it with the new one. There is one clip on the top and two clips on the bottom. Again, I just recommend using a small flathead screwdriver to jiggle that cover off and replace the part and put the new cover on the module. Hope this info helps. I literally just did it myself.

Thanks for this video and the part number. You just saved me a ton of trouble and the $100 the dealer wanted to do this work. I actually did it a little different than you did. I used a small flathead screwdriver to pry the cap off the assembly (Same thing happened at $:20 in your vid) but then I pushed the whole thing back into the dash and pulled it out the driver's side foot well. Unplugged it, and pushed the plug back up through the original hole in the dash and connected the new one.

The longer option is to pull the gauge cluster, then the stereo out and use a butter knife to push the sides in on the AUX port to pull out instead of prying against the plastic. It may take a bit longer but its easier on the dash. Thanks for the video, it helped us do ours.

I actually JUST did this a few minutes ago and did it with VERY little scarring and no damage of either plug and it took me about 15 minutes... First I removed the panel below the steering wheel, removed the upper center console piece (that has the shifter bezel and tray), then the compartment above center console there is a little flap at the top I removed that. I was able to wiggle my hand in the last panel to press the tab on the left of the aux jack. That allowed one side of it to pop out. Then took a little screw driver, stuck it in the gap that created on the right and pressed the right tab. POP... came right out. Very little scarring. I have fairly large hands, so it should be possible for more. But bigger hands will have a issue.

Update/DIY protip; If you are doing this on an '06 hybrid, look up into the cubby adjacent to the jack assembly and there is an access panel you can pop that has 2 slots for a flathead/panel tool. pop tht sucker open, reach your hand behind the jack assembly, easily remove cable male end, squeeze those tabs together and push the assembly forward and it slides out with minimal effort. Take that male end through the hole for the assembly, pop it into that module THROUGH the assembly hole shove that sucker GENTLY back into it's hole right side up(with aux reading correctly) and you are done. No visible scratches and took me about a minute and thirty seconds. If you have that panel up in the top of the cubby, this job is a cinch for anyone whose hand can fit in side the space(it;s fairly roomy)

Found an easy way...rather than attempting to "pinch" out, initially, I: 1) Used pliers, and pulled the actual aux input...first the casing tore out, then the actual "innards" 2) There are two "openings" on the side...I took narrow flat head, and jammed in there to break the clasps that hold it in... 3) this pushed the who piece in, which was a little hard to fish out...used the same flat head to fish it out from behind (underneath) the console...by steering wheel those steps did little-no dmg

I made the video because I had a similar issue. Plug a cable in and play a song. Move the connector piece of the cable around and see if the aux engages (look at video from 40 secs - 1:10.) If you find that the same is happening the the aux connector is probably bad. Feel free to look at my video or more popular ones out there. I hope this helps!

I know you’re trying to help, but, you are doing this incorrectly. Remove the door from the Aux port, pull out the circuit board, replaced it with the circuit board from the new Aux port. Reinstall the door....simple. Do not damage your dashboard by trying to pull out the whole assembly, Most importantly, do not take advise from someone who can’t pronounce the name of the part they’re replacing.
