Replacing the Cigarette Lighter

This is one of those quick and easy replacements that can be done with only a screw driver! I am replacing the cigarette lighter and housing with some new parts to freshen up the dash a little.
Cigarette Lighter - Scott Drake # C5ZZ-15052-K
Cigarette Housing - Scott Drake # C4AZ-15055-B
The car is a 1966 Mustang Fastback with a factory V8 and C4 transmission.

Man I have a lot to learn. I changed the lighter on my 66 f 100 just like that and got it working but couldnt get the cable back on. I left it for awhile came back and the lighter knob melted! Somehow it stayed on. It wasnt clicked in. I dont know what happened. Im lucky I didnt burn it down 4:17

There is an extra tab on the back of the lighter socket, is that for a ground wire? Does thi need to be grounded?

Correct, it is recommended that you attach a ground wire there as the grounding through the lighter housing into the dash may not be sufficient. :)

is the other tab a ground hookup? on the housing....

The housing is threaded up against the metal dash, which is ground source, so there's no need to ground the housing. However, if this housing was being installed in a different car where it wasn't mounted to a metal location, one would want to put a ground wire on the tab you mentioned so the circuit could be completed when using the cigarette lighter. :)

No, it was kind of a silly replacement as I don't need the lighter to work. However, if I ever need the lighter receptacle to work, I'm covered. :)
