I remember having to do the oldman Toyota Corona in the driveway on ramps in the middle of winter. Burnt it out and had to get it done before he got home from holidays and more importantly, before he found out!

Been doing Patrol boxes for years and its far easier to drop the transfer case off first then pull the gearbox out by itself. Makes life a hell of a lot easier. & I'm guessing that you didn't pressure lube the spigot bearing before installing given that you didn't show the process. Hopefully it doesn't bind up, especially if you only greased it.

Fancy schmancey with a lift and a jack. I grew up helping Dad replace HQ & HX gear box’s having car on ramps. Dad putting me on a mechanic trolly and placing gearbox on my chest, pushing me into it place by my legs and the sayin “lift it boy! A bit higher! Hold it!” As he started a bolt on either side to hold box up. First time it happened that way was my 13th birthday. Remember doing 5 gearbox’s that way, 1 took hours and hours….. it just wouldn’t seat, until he realised he’d grabbed the wrong box from under the bench. Grabbed the HR’s 186 4speed box instead of the HQ’s 253 box (the joys of dad owning own business, losing gears on way home from work and doing an overnight replacement in the backyard before work & school next day).

Nathan should stay away from gearboxs clutches and torque converters. But being a hackshop video. Its worth it

@adamedwards2287 Жыл бұрын
Adjusting the free play on the master cylinder push rod may help with the clutch engaging so close to the floor, or making a longer temporary push rod for the slave cylinder to give it more throw. Great episode and awesome to see Nathan going out on his own 😀

If it's a stock petrol motor it's easier to pull the motor out then it is for the box to do a clutch
@markiusgalfordii9248 Жыл бұрын
Use bread seriously. It's a trick that my dad taught me years ago. You take a piece of bread and you put it in the hole. Then you find a socket a bolt something That fits the whole. Then you take your hammer and hit. The bolt or socket or whatever you have in the hole. The pressure will push the bearing out.
@daviddoppy4126 Жыл бұрын
I found it was easier when you're in the concrete floor is to remove the motor 😂

You should get the flywheel and clutch balanced as a unit or clutch vibration at 90 to 100 kmh is a sure thing.
@MattyP4x4 Жыл бұрын
Clutches come already balanced and the flywheel is already balanced. Balancing them together just isn't ever necessary especially on a low revving motor. Also the flywheel and clutch only ever spin at engine speed, no relation to road speed

Had a GQ and thrust bearing went too. Mine went because welsch plug on back of engine was leaking coolant out onto the thrust bearing. Rule of practice on them, they are such a bitch of a job to pull gear box out u should of changed the welsh plugs on back of engine too and know your safe troible free kms for another few hundred thousand kms. Other then that good job.
