Replacing the gas tank on my Massey Ferguson 135 & my Horrible Fright generator in the process Pt. 3

The gas tank on my 1970 Massey Ferguson 135 tractor is dirty and causing clogging and fuel starvation, so I'm replacing the tank. My generator from Horrible Fright is also involved.

It's from "Red Brachetta" by Rush. It's actually a little science fiction story, but it is wonderfully poetic. It's one of my artist-daughter's favorites (of the oldies that I introduced her to). I edited a bit out of it and use it as her ringtone on my phone.

I was really needing to know the process on how to remove the old tank that last bolt in the front that’s behind the water neck how the hell do you get that off what do you have to remove? I have a 135 with a Perkins diesel I am trying to take the injectors out and I have to take the gas tank out to get the injectors out and it’s taking up my whole process

If it's the same as the gas engine, the front bolts are carriage bolts that are actually spring-loaded, and they slide into some slots. It's kind of like a latch. Once you get the other bolts out, you pull the tank backwards to get it out. The water neck may interfere (the underside of the front of the tank hits it when you lift the back end up), but I think you can still get it off. To get the tank back on, you'll either have to pull the radiator and water neck off, or do what I did and beat on the tank with a ball peen hammer to put a dent in it so that it clears the water neck.

@@ArkansasPilgrim Thank you very much for replying sir I appreciate you taking the time. I actually ended up finding it somehow a way to get a swivel headed box end wrench I had like the box inside has a socket on it and then it was just the right size to fit in the little gap and I was able to take the boat loose I didn’t realize those were spring loaded I saw the springs but I didn’t know it was slotted so I ended up actually unfolding all that from the underside and taking the whole tank off straight and then when I put it back together I ended up just using the rear bolts and leaving the rubber grommets for the tank the rest on for the time being I have to take the back take the tank back out thanks for telling me that I now know how I have to do it properly do it I will need to do What you said about removing the radiator and possibly the water neck

But it works for now and we can mow the grass that’s all that matters.I actually ended up not even having to remove the injector after I got the tank off I found that the return line was loose on one of the injectors and letting air into the system. I knew air was getting into the system but I thought maybe an injector was stuck open in the compression was pushing back to the injector

@@user-xh2vn6gs7p You might consider strapping the front of the tank down so it doesn't cause any problems around the rear bolts. All the vibration and bouncing around the tractor does might end up starting cracks that will grow and ruin the tank.
