DISCLAIMER
THIS VIDEO WAS FILMED UNDER PARENTAL SUPERVISION
First off the actions I do were I disassembled the pistol are not the correct way and in the filming of this I did not know but I do now thanks to many peoples comments, so that means that what I do, you should not. This was just me filming myself try in the safest way possible. also this is why I called the video “Replacing the hammer” not “How to replace the hammer”.
I also do not recommend swinging the cylinder in or out I can damage the pistol
In this video of the Hunting Down Adventure KZbin channel I take a early model Smith and Wesson model 27-2 and dissemble it to replace the hammer on it showing you what I do along the way. Enjoy the Video!

A good gunsmith should know better than to slam a cylinder closed like that.

Well yes but I was holding the camera in one hand and I had to close it some how but don’t worry I haven’t done that since and I filmed that in march or April

Right on. I was just surprised after watching you do such a nice job of replacing the hammer on that S&W ( something I wouldn’t even attempt to do) that you would cowboy close the cylinder like that. I hope you put out some more videos that I can watch and learn from.👍

You obviously know little about the proper care of firearms. You mistreated many parts, chancing damage.🤨

Well you obviously don’t know me or the full understanding of this video. First off proper care of firearms meaning cleaning and proper storage, cleaning and taking care of it whilst I use it and I do all that to the best of there possibility and not one of the firearms I own have any rust on it I take care of them very well now that I’ve settled that yes I know that swinging the cylinder or prying on the side plate are bad and like you said mistreated the parts but at that time I didn’t know being that I had never done anything like that before but I have learned thanks to certain people who commented I have learned and have researched more about it. There you go and in conclusion I disagree with the first part of your comment but do agree with the second part and we all think in different ways of thinking and thank you for sharing yours and I just shared mine

Prying off sideplate. This guy is no gunsmith. And slapping cylinder closed. Two of the biggest mistakes you can make.

We’ll never claim to be a gunsmith I’m just a 15 year old who enjoys guns and fixing them. I had no better way off getting the plate off it was seized on there by rust due to the guns hard life and it sitting around for 20 years with the broken hammer, also the gun is mine so I can do as I wish to it but, I do take care of it .Yes I know the cylinder slamming isn’t good for it but I only had one hand, and that gun was built when Americans were proud of what they built not no Chinese knock off stuff so in other words it was built tough to withstand everything thrown at it and continue working for a long time but don’t get you panties in a wad over it, I don’t do it anymore it was a one and done deal. But I appreciate your comment and I will learn from it so thank you.

@@HuntingDownAdventure you know more than most 15 year olds, I’ll give you that. To get the side plate off, remove the screws with a proper hollow ground screwdriver. Do not mix up the order. I use a 7 day pill organizer and put the screws in the Mon/We’d/Fri compartments in the order that they are on the gun. When the screws are off, use the handle of the screwdriver to rap on the frame under the grips(the grips are off, obviously). The vibration will lift it right off. Prying it off can easily bend it, and side plates are custom fit. Once they’re bent, you’re screwed. And the grip Screws are a different size than the size plate screws so different screwdrivers should be used. And make sure they’re exactly fitting hollow ground bits. As for flipping the cylinder, S&W’s are tough, but the yoke is thin and flipping it can bend it, and then you have real problems. Best to never do it, regardless of the reason. And it was never good to do it, regardless of the era the gun was made. The yoke is the same now as it was then. And stop acting like you have some direct knowledge of the metallurgy of vintage S&W revolvers. You’re a 15 year old kid who knows what little he knows by watching KZbin videos, many of them most likely posted by others with minimal experience but posing as experts. A Model 27 is to be treasured, not abused. You sure that’s a 27? Looks more like a 28 with the finish being what it is. And my panties aren’t in a bunch. I don’t know how a 15 year old can claim to own a pistol, but if you do, you can drag it behind a truck for all I care. But maybe you should learn more before you post a video posing as somebody who knows what they’re doing. Maybe someone who knows even less than you will watch it and screw up their own guns. Destroy your own property if you want, but try not to advise others to do the same. It’s nice to see a 15 year old knowing anything about guns outside of Call of Duty, but you’re a long way from Being capable of posting instructional videos that other people might watch and emulate.

That’s a good idea for the pill box I ended up using shop towels so each type of screw in a or a different rag, I know I needed to use hollow ground screwdriver’s but at that time I did not have the funds for being I was saving for a vehicle I now have I can go spend money on hollow ground screw drivers I do appreciate the reminder, yes I know that it was bad to flip the cylinder but at the time I did not know with the minimal knowledge back the but it has been 6 months since it was filmed and I now know more since I’ve continued to researched it and from people like you, and I have no metallurgy knowledge of smith and Wesson but I’m not a idiot when it come to metal being I work with it as my job. No in this case KZbin videos were pointless being I could not find anything about my situation but countless Days of reading forums and exploded diagrams will do the trick in figuring it out, I do hope to one day take the classes to become a certified gunsmith. I treasure this thing more than you can imagine in fact it’s always kept in a dry safe place where it remains clean and oiled properly. It’s a model 27-2 with a 3 1/2 barrel which makes it the predecessor to the model 28 highway patrol man. And I figured they weren’t in a bunch I’m sorry for saying that. Yes your right about owning it and I want to apologize if I came off harsh upon it but it was a gift from my grandpaw and legally I can’t own it till 18 but it is still treated and considered mine by him and my parents even though they both have technical custody of it. I never meant it as a instructional video because I know what I did during wasn’t the greatest things to do that’s why I titled it: Replacing the hammer, not how to replace the hammer. But yes I realize it came off as instructional video but I filmed it mostly to be able to look back how thing’s went, and not advice to others. Thank you for that and I think that’s a video game but I’m not sure cause I don’t like nor do I even try to mess with them I’d much rather go forge and camp or hike work or shoot guns maybe even work on them. Once again I want to apologize for coming of harsh or mean on that reply, I truthfully appreciate your comment and I will learn from my mistakes thanks to you also I hope to hear from you again because I have had nobody to teach me and it seems you know your stuff and if you’d be willing to tell or teach whichever I’d be very happy to listen and would appreciate it deeply. Thank you very much

@@HuntingDownAdventure no need to apologize. The panties in a twist required a comeback, but no harm done. I do think it is great that a 15 year old is into vintage revolvers. My son is your age and he prefers my Glock to my vintage Smith’s. I guess my appreciation for fine weaponry hasn’t trickled down. He thinks they are cool and nice looking but he’d rather shoot my Glock. He’d also rather shoot my AR15 than my 1944 M1 Garand. Maybe one day he’ll learn! 3 1/2 inch barrel is a real treasure. Treat it well and your grandkids will be shooting your grandfather’s gun. Just remember they don’t make them like they used to so any damage done is usually permanent. Especially watch for the prying sideplates and flipping cylinders. Those are two of the most damaging things you can do to that revolver. The hammer was probably broken by dropping it. Enjoy that fine old gun and keep learning. And sorry if I came off too harshly. If reloading components ever come down in price, I’d start learning how to do that. It will be the only way to feed throat old girl! And it’s always advisable to take the rebound slide out before the hammer. That’s the tricky piece you had to take out to get the hammer back in. There’s a special tool that makes it easy that is only about 15 bucks. If you ever have to take another revolver apart you’ll appreciate having it. Don’t pry anything out, hammer included. You got lucky the new hammer dropped right in. Often, the sear will have to be replaced, but you could take the one out of the bad hammer and install it in the new one.

Well I don’t blame him those Glock and ar’s they are light and convenient but I refuse to own anything polymer the closest thing to a Glock is a Colt commander 1911 made in 1968, but as for A nice rifle my great great grandpaws marlin 336 lever action in 30-30. My dad wants to get at-15 for all of us and due to the state of the USA I don’t blame him but I told him that I’d much rather have my 336 and 27-2 in a last ditch stand because those are a fine piece of weaponry. That’s a nice gun you got there. He’ll learn when he really how nice they are compared to the polymer wonders of the world. Don’t doubt I won’t take care of and I promise I will never do those things again. It’ll still be going all the years later I wouldn’t doubt it. Yep that’s how it broke. Your just fine don’t worry. Yea I wanted to reload to but it’s just to dagum expensive, good luck with yours and yea it’ll take it. Oh I ended up having to take it out to get the hammer back in and it was a pain in the butt without the proper tools, I will look in to getting the tool, I know I got lucky. It was good to semi meet you and I will take care of my stuff I know that’s guns rare but the story just as good but I don’t know if it’s a story KZbin should hear but outside of KZbin I don’t mind to tell it, same with all my guns they got a good story. Thank you for everything I hope to hear from you once again.
