Replacing the headlining on a Jaguar XJR 308

Apologies for the lack of videos over the last few months.
Here I replace the headlining on my Jaguar XJR 308. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the excellent demonstration of removal of old sagging headlining and installation of new one. I hadn't realised you could fold the new one in half to get it inside the car, I thought it would be too rigid, brittle and would break if folded as demonstrated.

Thank you for your comment. The headlining has a flexible glass-fibre backing so is more flexible than you think!

Thanks for the excellent demonstration, but I would have considered spraying carpet glue Through pin holes to see if this approach works first. But thanks again, for such a pro job

I'm so happy I found this. Great job. I love this car but am too tall for any version with a sunroof - I am so delighted to see they made XJR without sunroofs!!!! I'm XJR hunting again, and if it needs a head liner I can now handle that too. 👍👍

Just out of interest having read your post, how tall are you please. The reason I ask is that I am looking for an XJR but at 6 foot 4, I am mindful that with the car being so low, headroom may be an issue. Having owned series 2 and 3 XJs and an XJS which I found ok, I am hoping the 308 will be too. Does the sunroof greatly affect the headroom?

I’m 6ft 1, I don’t find there to be a problem at all with headroom, in fact, because the driver and front passenger seats have good adjustment in height, you will definitely find adequate head space. The sunroof versions do reduce the head room only very slightly, but I am very sure you won’t find it a problem. Happy hunting, I hope you find a great example and join us all in the endless pleasure of owning a Jaguar XJ 308. 😀👍

@@beaufighter245 Hi. I am 6'4" too, but not all people are built the same even at the same height. I have a long torso and neck so sit tall. I sat in a '98 XJ with sunroof and with the seat fully lowered, backed up, and reclined, my head was firmly against the low interior roof. I currently drive an '05 Pilot without sunroof and with plenty of head room to spare. I've been looking for months now and still no XJ without sunroof. Patience.

I had my 1999 Vanden Plas XJ8 headliner replaced a couple years ago. He actually replaced the fabric on the upper pad. I've had it done twice over the years. It was about $400. USD. He had to use a special glue for the Florida humidity.

But to be very honest, it seems that I have two left hands, or let it put in other words, it would be a real risk for my beautiful jag if I would really try it. In my case the headlining is not destroyed. It is not fixed anymore. In German we say it is hanging. Maybe that is different in real English, but maybe you understand. So I am looking for a operation that is less difficult for me.

Hi, I bought mine from EBay, look for Jaguar XJ 308 headliner and it should take you to a company called Headliner World. They are one of the longest producing companies for replacement headliners with GRP backing. It costs around £165.00 I think. It’s not a bad job to fit either, I quite enjoyed doing it. 👍😀

Nice video. How did you find the match between the new headliner cloth and the existing in the pillars? I'm wondering if they need doing as well to be right.

The company I purchased the headliner backed with GRP gave a choice of Oatmeal or grey, I chose Oatmeal because it was the colour of my seating. It matched the pillar colour perfectly. You don’t have to re cover the pillars at all. Hope that helps.

I bought it from a company on eBay - I’ve checked and they no longer seem to sell them but if you type in Jaguar XJ308 (or your specific car) headlining it should bring up some options for you.

Belle démonstration par contre éviter de court-circuiter les câbles au remontage sinon le fusible numéro 7 saute et c’est lui qui commande pas mal d’instruments dont le levier de vitesse qui se bloque sans pouvoir plus passer de vitesse !
