Replacing the keyboard on a Acer Aspire V3 571G laptop

A 2 year old pulled off all the keys from the laptop's keyboard. Even after being put back some of the keys didn't work. A few of them made two keys register on screen. For instance pressing j made j and h appear on screen. I usually see this in the case of water damage. With it being a 2 year old there was probably a lot of saliva involved which is a liquid. I replaced the keyboard.
This is the one I have. It has the same 64bit set along with some other useful tools and a carrying case.

it was so peaceful to watch, so thank you as well. What I felt as disturbing is that I think you installed the camera on your head, so each movement with you head brought some restless moving. I couldn`t finisch watching the video in one stretch as this caused me a little headache.

Thank you for the video. I have just replaced my keyboard successfully as well (on the exact same Acer). BTW, on my original keyboard about 10 keys around the center (RTYDFGHJVBN) stopped working without any reason (no water/wine/beer damage at all, the keyboard wasn't even used much as I use external USB keyboard most of the time).

At 8:56 there is a plastic SD slot that has a plastic insert that you can take out to make it easier to remove the touch pad. I saw this on another video. Great video. I am replacing a keyboard for my granddaughter's computer that the dog walked on.

thanks for the video. I had the same problem with the 2 screws on each side that broke the plastic. I didn't extract the HDD nor the power button (at 16:44...). works great.

Just curious!...why would you not replace the CMOS battery whilst you had it all apart? (Inexpensive preventative maintenance) Just a thought.

The vast majority of cmos batteries outlive the computers they're in.

Hi i did the dissambly successfully and cleaned and while putting back in keyboard connector latch broke. I still fixed it with some cardboard paper and tape to keep the large connector from slipping off. It turns on fine but says "No bootable device" and just the power key works on the keyboard. Rest of the keys don't work or respond. I connected an external keyboard and still same message. Do you think i messed up some connections inside (not tightly fit) or it is just the keyboard connection that isn't tight. Please help

The biggest problem is that once you take out the screws from behind, don't move the screen... Or it will break the plastic where the screen screws are fixed and then the laptop cases dont close. Big mistake i made before I saw your video.

Any reason why the RAM at 5.09 got whacked with the screwdriver? Just curious if this is a professional technique. To ease the pressure on the left hinge, you could back off the screw/nut that hold the tension spring in. This will reduce the pressure/torque applied to the hinge and if the first 2 screws removed connect to the flat plate of the hinge may stop further damage in that area.

@@MichaelTheComputerGuy Hey sorry for bothering you. This cable at 9:58 should be for the touch pad alone right? I had to disassemble the laptop of my parents, cuz it was in a bad state (keyboard was half working and enter(both of them) was pressing itself). I removed, this cable and disconnected the keyboard cable, so they can just use external mouse and a keyboard (we chose it's not worth to replace in the laptops overall condition). Is it possible that on of those (9:58 and the keyboard) was also related to the hdmi and the audio ports? I mean, I don't think this should be possible. Cuz now they are saying that those two no longer work.

@@legendariano4303 Not that cable. I don't remember but usually the hdmi and audio are on the motherboard. If yours are on a separate card check the cable that connects it to the motherboard.

@@ltdees2362 I'm very meticulous with my laptops. I never spilled a single drop of anything on it. I even prop up my laptops to help keep them cool. My Acer was the only one to ever have a keyboard failure, or a failure of any kind for that matter.

Yes the process is the same but there is an extra cable for the backlight.

I replace my keyboard because some keys needed to be press a lot to work. I put it all back together and a month later I notice my CPU fan is not working. I can't think anything I did that could have caused this. The power button, trackpad, and keyboard all work. If I remember correctly there is a metal plate under the keyboard I need to unscrewed to even get to the motherboard. I ordered a new fan but the odd part is if I stick a piece of plastic in the fan vent it seems to move freely. I hope it is not the fan header. The laptop shuts down once a day. Do you think I did something when replacing the keyboard? I am not taken this apart until my new fan gets here. It was working until the keyboard replacement. Acer v3 731-4634

I think it's a good idea to not open it until you have the replacement fan. I don't think I've ever seen a fan header on a laptop motherboard fail. Most likely it's either slightly disconnected or there is something blocking it from turning.

I was figuring it out as I went. There are no manuals from Acer that show how they are put together. This was the first time I did this on an acer laptop.

What's worse is that these models have a really high keyboard failure rate. Good job, Acer! I typically like Acer, but they cheaped out with the KB on these models, and it really hurt a lot of their customers.
