Hi my friend. I had the same “ problem with “ temp gauge “ showing very low temp. If it got to just over around 80 deg. the motor stopped. Embarrassingly traffic. Lol. I had occasion to do a trip up a very steep mountain road. Before I left on this trip, I gave thermostat a “ tap” with hammer. Coming up the mountain, it got to 90 deg. I was looking for somewhere to pull off the road all the time. Guess what??? Not a problem. She went bloody well!!! I am REALLY impressed by ur ability to overcome all your problems. No wonder you English won the war!! Lol. Really learn heaps from your videos. Many many thanks!! Cheers from Australia!! 🍷🍷🍷🇦🇺👍👍👍

I love the way you stay so calm even when it’s all going wrong! I reckon you’re right about the gauge. Especially as it was still reading normal with the overheating light on. My old talbot always ran cold though. Could never get the cab warm in winter. Someone once suggested putting a sheet of card in front of the radiator during winter.

excellent result on the broken bolt, nicely done, these kind of how to videos can produce many thousands of views if the make of the vehicle is in the title, a very well put together helpful video for others to fix there vans. Not sponsored by plus gas! but do you have shares in them ? ha ha, it's a pleasure to be able to work on these older vehicles, i hate modern vehicles ! this was definitely not a waste of time, preventative maintenance is always the best and thats what you have done. A hot summers day and you know your thermostat is in good working order, I would fit a new temperature sender next. their cheap and easy to fit. a job well done there. i enjoyed that ! cheers and take care

Oooh, I would say it's more of a vlog of my mechanical mishaps than a tutorial since I'm learning as I go along myself. Still if it helps anyone else struggling with similar issues that's great 🙂 The make and model of the van is in the tags if not in the title....

Mine runs on the 90 mark Mike, I think the matrex cab heater is the issue as I think the repair to it has restricted the water somewhat.

Nice job 👍 I think the gauge is possibly faulty or the heat sensor on the engine First thing clean the connectors on both ends The sensor and the gauge The gauge works on a Ohms resistance so you can measure the Ohms at the gauge or just join the wires at the sender unit to see if the Moves across fully If it move fully across then change the Heat sender unit on the engine I think it will be a screw in one (it’s just a heat Activated variable resistor) Best regards 👍😀🐾🍺🍟

ttxela kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXjdZWd_bpWLmac Not sure if this is of any help to you? (I have a similar issue with temp gauge sitting in the blue! Think it may be the either gauge or sender unit as the stat was changed not so long ago and the cab heaters are nice and toasty! (Ps I haven’t tried testing the sender/ gauge yet but we seem to be at a similar stage with a similar problem and I was going to give the method in this vid a shot..... so disclaimer alert, I can’t vouch for the video yet! lol)

Another thing you could do is drill it out and use a tap & dye set on it. For corrosion inside where you put the bolt I would use a special wire brush that fits in a dremmel. It's the shape of a pipe cleaner but with wire bristles. Here across the pond we use WD40 for lubrication of rusted bolts and permatex in place of gaskets. Around the turn of last century what the old timers did to get rid of rusted inside the radiator was to drain out all the liquid, pour in a bottle or two of coke, run the engine for a bit, drain out the coke, put antifreeze back in. Coke is so corrosive it eats every bit of rusted which means when people drink it I'm guessing it does a number on their stomach as well.
@ttxela
@ttxela 2 жыл бұрын
Lots of folk use WD40 here too but I find plus gas just that little bit better. I might try that coke trick next time I drain the radiator out 👍 I've heard of people using it to clean the waste tank too. 🙂

Hi We have a Talbot autohome landliner coach-built with the 2.5 turbo diesel in . Ours runs at 90 all day long, climbing a little when sat in traffic. Have you bled the radiator,on ours there are bleed screws at the top of the radiator on both sides.we had loads of air in the radiator. Maybe this might help.
@ttxela

Yes, I'm pretty sure its a gauge/sender issue since the temperature whilst running is actually around 90 despite what the gauge says.

Try bleeding your heater, definitely shouldn't be so low. The bleed is located to the right of the green sticker in your video at 1min 22, its black like a star shape end. start your engine with the cab heater on full and remove the black screw, when it gets to temp it will start spluttering forcing air out, when the water / coolant runs free put it back in and top up your expansion tank if needed.
@ttxela
@ttxela 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Paul. Yes, have bled the heater, definitely no air left in there. She does seem to be coming up to temperature. I reckon the sender itself is faulty.
