@mrt2this6073 жыл бұрын
I've loved these cars since they came out. Had 2 of the boxy 80's series in my teenage years. But in my thirties I got the one I've always wanted the sw20 turbo. Bought one online from a private seller. Flew out to Atlanta & drove it back to denver. Had a bit of a scare as we crossed the Mississippi River. Wife was crazy, saying we almost died. Don't know why but I found the problem after a few minutes of looking around. Guy hadn't changed the sparkplug/ignition wires in probably a decade. When I pulled one off of one of the cylinders the top came off & the bottom half of the stick stuck to the plug end. Next day made a trip to the parts store & we were off, made it back with no other probs. It's now in my garage getting new everything. Bored out a bit, new conn-rods, pistons, bearings, oversized valves, cams, fuel injectors, headers+exhaust, standalone ecu and a beautiful new bigger turbo. That little 200hp 2 liter will be at or over the 300hp mark easy. Well, once the tuning is done. Not quite done yet, been a long several year build with all the research & parts finding, especially for the factory plastic moldings for the interior & such. Probably gonna have all the fabrics re-done also. Can't wait for it to fire up, purr nicely, then rip up to 7500rpm. So glad I found one in pretty good shape, they're getting harder & harder to find

Considering the bearings are non magnetic and the metal fragments were... then maybe not.
@imnota4 жыл бұрын
@wrx2hot4u That knocking sound most likely is a bearing, could be other stuff, but until further dissasembly, that is the guess any reasonable mechanically minded person would make. Bearings have a couple of layers made from different materials. Some of the deeper layers are magnetic, like the nickel layer and the backing, which is made out of steel. Also, they left the engine running for a while despite the obvious knock so the crank probably is really worn, contributing to those magnetic shavings. You should stop being so aggressive and act like a know it all, and for all we know, according to your behavior, you seem way more likely to be a 12yo than our friend Tim who has a surprisingly grown beard for his age.
