Best video I ever seen! Short, right to the point, no theatrical acting, and no ad’s right in the middle of it!!! Thank you for making this.

Excellent job. For those who are doing this at home, there is another little trick you can use to seat the races. Put the races in the freezer for a couple of hours before doing the job. Heat the hub with a torch, heat gun or in the oven until it's about 180-200F. Pull a race out of the freezer and slide it into place in the hub. Most of the time, you won't even have to hit it. The race will heat up very quickly and be locked into place. Turn the wheel over and do the other race.

Thanks, great video. Glad that you included that baring races. I also appreciated that there was no music dubbed over.

Good illustration of the steps involved. No irritating comments, directions interspersed with Ah, Uh, and Like. Just the points that are actually necessary... nothing more, nothing less. All thumbs up!

should the grease seal fit snuggly on the spindle when you re-install the hub? I'm re-packing my boat trailer bearings and when I went to get a new grease seal I was told it was the wrong size and it should fit snuggly over the spindle. The one that was installed doesn't do that. I was given a boat and trailer by a friend and I am making sure the bearing are packed for next spring. I've done bearing on my canoe trailer but never notice if the seal is supposed to be snug to the spindle. Also, when removing the hub I noticed there isn't a washer behind the nut. I never saw this before. Any help is appreciated.

You made those races look so easy to tap in! My driver set is aluminum and it is marring easily. Thanks for the video! Can you do one on axel alignment?

Do you need to machine the brake drum a do you need to machine the part of the drum the magnet sits on?

I gouged the hub in a few spots where the races were trying to get the races off. They were stuck in there good. Does that make a difference or should I buy new hubs? The hubs are 23 years old with a lot of surface rust but still seem strong and they have no rust at all inside the hub. I wire brushed them and plan on wiping them with alcohol to remove grease then spray them with cold galvanizing spray tomorrow so they don't rust much more.

you need to buy new ones.

@@wayned8899 You are not supposed to remove races in the manner shown in the video (There are tools for that) The mechanic in the video is so experienced that he does not need the tool) If your a novis and you try to use the punch method you will probaby scratch the hub. but who cares? put bearings back on!

Can i use old bearing race over the new and then tapped
@tealforester48264 жыл бұрын
I do, but I first cut a slit in it with a cutting blade in my grinder. If you don’t, you’ll never get out the second race you used to pound in the new one. I’ve always done this, but I think I’m ordering the race setter tools tomorrow...

How do you know which way the bearing goes in? Can you put it on backwards?
@aguyandhiscomputer Жыл бұрын
no, they are angled.
@Gbannish6 жыл бұрын
You tapped the inner seal below flush, is that ok?
@tealforester48264 жыл бұрын
I saw that too and am thinking NO...
@quentinmays24222 жыл бұрын
What could become the problem with the seal being past flush??
@dnlmachine42872 жыл бұрын
The seal has to be set so its inside rubber rides FULLY on the seal surface of the axle/spindle: www.emiliostrailers.com/images/SubMenu/Leptomeries-kataskevis/superlube/ez-lube_01.jpg www.trailerpartsstop.com/running-gear/sp-50642-sq.png ("D" is the seal surface). You can use the "old" assembly to check if the seal depth is correct before removing the seal/bearings. Then use "old" seal depth measurement to set new seal depth. Some hub/seal/bearing assemblies will stop the seal at the correct depth when it hits the inner bearing race. Stay gold.

you do not want the inner bearing race to spin on the spindle therefore you do not put grease inside of the bearing other than that good video
