Thank you again I will be applying the information I gathered from watching your video to put rear leaf springs on a Chevy Blazer. Cheers friend!

I've used the block of wood technique to get home. Luckily I had a couple of tie straps to put around the 2x4. Drove back to Kentucky from Maryland that way! One additional tip: Don't smoke the rear bolts down. The shackles are there to help relieve stiffness in the springs. It helps reduce tension on the leaf springs so it doesn't snap! The point is that the shackles need to travel. Another would be do not tighten the shackle bolts until you've set the tires on the ground. (and bounce the load up and down) It would be a good idea to tow the boat around for a bit so everything sits well. Then button it down.

Yep, don’t leave home without block of wood now. Correct, don’t over tighten shackles

good tip on the 2x4 so may i add if you tie the 2x4 to frame of trailer it can't bounce out.

Just wondering do you not have to weld the spring seats on the axle? Just wondering, I never saw you tack them and didnt know if that is how they came of your trailer?
@PrestigeWorldwideFishing Жыл бұрын
No, don’t have to weld these. There is a hole in the spring seat and a rivet on the springs that the holds the seat in place.

Mine just broke as I got off the creek turnpike. I didn’t even think about the block of wood. Luckily I had some straps and put one in the front and back and limp about 6 miles home.

The pink things may be bushes if the bolt fits through it which prevent metal on metal. If your car's suspension is squeaking it's probably because the bushes have worn through.
@PrestigeWorldwideFishing Жыл бұрын
Yeah they might have been the same thing I ordered, just felt thin and wouldn’t last long. The thicker ones I ordered are still working great and zero squeaks so far.

Where do you suggest buying the leaf springs from? 1999 mastercraft trailer for an x star boat.
@PrestigeWorldwideFishing Жыл бұрын
I have no affiliation, but I have bought all my trailer parts at sturdybuiltonline.com. My axles, hubs and springs have all come from them. Haven’t had any issues with anything they have sent. Good luck!

I have a double jet ski trailer that gets used as a kayak trailer. The ride is super rough since the kayaks are about 250 lbs. Not a fan of the trailer jumping up when im going 80 down the highway. Are the springs pretty much universal? Can I remove individual springs or should i buy a set designed for that partuclar weight? I usually only have 1 kayak on the trailer unless someone is going with me so it almost always only has 120 or so lbs on it. What springs should i get? Is there a percentage of the rated load im aiming for to get the best ride? Like maybe 70% of the rated weight capacity?
@PrestigeWorldwideFishing8 ай бұрын
I’m really not sure what sort of springs you would need. Guessing not much since kayaks don’t weigh anything. I used www.sturdybuiltonline.com/ for my springs. They show you how to measure and give you several options. I would reach out to their support and they would be able to tell you exactly what you should get.
@whholstein7 ай бұрын
Do you need to support the other side of the trailer ?
@PrestigeWorldwideFishing7 ай бұрын
Ideally yes. Mine wasn’t perfect but I just chucked the wheel on the other side so it wouldn’t roll. If I had more jack stands I would have lifted trailer and set trailer frame on stands on opposite side as well

Just quick question why did say never tighten spring bolts? which one specifically?
@PrestigeWorldwideFishing2 жыл бұрын
You shouldn’t over tighten bolt with the shackles. If you over tighten, those shackles can’t swing freely with the spring and will brake the minute you go over a bump and the spring tries to flex
@Macdaddy8124U2 жыл бұрын
what kind of jack did you use to life trailer up? im having issues with a solid travel jack to do everything on my trailer

I have a 3 ton Jack that I use for all my vehicle or boat needs. Probably overkill but it lifts everything easily

Hi mate! Thanks for the video, for the U bolts on the axel, is a must to use an impact wrench or a manual one will do? The jack i am using wouldn't lift enough to fit the impact wrench underneath
