Replacing Water Main with Pipe Bursting in Arlington, TX

Arlington Water Utilities in Texas has over 550 miles of existing asbestos cement (AC) water main throughout their distribution system, much of which is failing with over 600 water main breaks 5 years ago.
The emergency costs to repair these water mains was escalating and options for permanent repairs and a programmatic approach was needed. Like most municipalities, Arlington Water Utilities needed to stretch available capital funds and sought innovative methods for replacing the water mains.
Arlington Water Utilities selected pre-chlorinated pipe bursting to install new HDPE pipe in place while reducing customer impacts, minimizing capital spending and reducing operational costs.
The water main replacement has been completed in mature residential neighborhoods and mixed-use business districts.
