Replacing Window Belt Weatherstrip on First Gen Tundra

**EDIT** It makes the project a little more involved, but I would recommend loosening the mirror to get the weatherstrip fully seated forward. To do so, you need to remove the door panel, which isn't hard but may add a half hour per side. I didn't think to do this until "Airpaycheck" mentioned it in the comments section. Thanks for the tip!!
Hey there! In this video, I replace the Window Belt Weatherstrip in my 2002 Toyota Tundra with a brand new OEM piece. This applies to all First Gen Tundras, and the installation was very straight forward. I hope you find the video helpful, thank you for watching! - Sal

Might be good to loosen up the mirror a bit to get the trim further forward. I did mine and had the same issues.

So easiest way to get the molding under the mirror is to slide the clips off the new piece install them on the truck. Then slide it under the mirror and press it all down. The clips click back into the tracks no problem.

One thing to try when trying to push the new weather strip forward under the mirror plastic is to apply something like vinyl or plastic trim dressing to the mirror plastic with a q-tip. This may allow the new weather strip to slide in/under the mirror plastic.

Good video!!. Mine went in well after watching this. I also installed new trim. Old trim came off fine, but broke half the clips. New part should come with clips in the track already. Points: -Old clips can help line up new clips if they did not completely break.(They are not magically in the correct spot and slide w/ a little effort...careful) -Soapy water after clean up can help the trim slide under/behind mirror. (I just left a little around the slot) -Soft/hard plastic hammer eased/tapped the trim behind mirror too. (Watch the alignment w/the other end. Curve has to match door panel. I tapped LIGHTLY from latch end of trim moving trim forward to get behind mirror always watching curve alignment. Not need to cut the rubber in my case) -If your are using small thin metal flat bar to push up trim to start, put wide plastic putty knife under FBar. (I tapped the FBar up and back from the end gently but still had 20+ year old clips break) My old trim appears to be straight. I would just need to get new clips to reinstall. Would have to do some serious prep and paint but usable if the belt was not shot.

So what I did on my 03 SR5 when I noticed the black plastic coating peeling was just peel it off all the way. In some places along the edge I had to use a razor knife to get a clean straight line and now I’ve got a cool custom chrome window sill trim. The rubber strip that touches the window was still in good shape so no need to replace it yet. My mirrors are chrome too so it fits imo. 🤙🏼

When I had a 2002 Tacoma, I vinyl-wrapped the belt weather strips, and it looked okay, but I broke a lot of the clips, taking it off as its old brittle plastic. In hindsight, it's better to buy OEM. I now have a 2004 Tundra 4X4; mine will need to be replaced in a year, and I will buy OEM parts.
