Replacing Wood Gate Slats for Composite

Hello Everyone! This video shows how to replace your natural wood gate slats with composite slats. No more having to use wood protection oils on the wood slats every 6 months. I purchased those same slats. I'm getting ready to change out my RV Gate and Walkthrough Gate Slats with these Faux slats. Question. Do you have to put any kind of sealant on the side where you cut? I have 44 boards to change out.

I didn't use any sealant - the material is the same all the way through, so cutting it is not an issue. Good luck with your project!- Mike

Could you provide the Lowes item # for the composite that you used?

Sure thing, the item number is 2492114 ( with two 45-degree cut corners), 2492120 (with no cut corners) , Natures Composites, Rosewood Composite fence picket. They come in gray, rosewood, or a lighter beige color. Good luck with your project!- Mike

Video I’m about to do this for an RV gate. It’s got very old slats in it and a few that are very odd sizes. My question is I also have to paint the frame the metal gate frame, so I’m assuming I would paint that as I go instead of take all the boards off and then paint.
