Taking a look at play with the DICE Version of Replay Basketball tabletop game...

I enjoyed your presentation on this 1961-62 NBA game. I have the PC version of this game, but they don't let you intentionally foul like they did back in 1961-62 season. Teams got up to 5 team fouls before you went into the bonus. I remember watching coaches substituting bench players to come in and intentionally fouling poor free throw shooters. They would 'trade' a foul for one free throw attempt, and it would be a '2 for 1' trade off. Meaning they would give up a one point free throw attempt in order to get possession back. It was a tactic that teams used to get back into the game or maybe tried to stay close in a game that was slipping away. You can do that with the board game, by simply assigning a foul to bench players, without actually making the change. You would see the player come into the game, expressly assigned to foul the 'Wilt Chamberlain's' of the league. When the player went to the line to shoot the free throws, they would sub back a player that momentarily went to the bench for that sub. The intentional foul that is in the PC version isn't like the strategy that they had in 1961-62...so I am thinking of getting the board version of the game...thanks again for your insight young man!

My pleasure. :-) I was a bit surprised by the rule differences in the 1961 game, especially the one shot foul. I was thinking that that could be a tactic, to foul to get the ball back with your opponent only getting the one free throw. I'm enjoying replaying this season VERY much. With the cards & dice version I do feel that I am able to get a bit more into it...

Easy game to follow. Thank you for the video. I am torn between purchasing "no dice" or "dice" version.

Hey Replay gamer, know you've been away from this game or playing offline.. I have recently become interested in Replay Basketball and I'm def leaning dice version. Didn't know more variety with a few charts. Thanks for the game play, I think the game comes off very intitutive.. however putting in stats and substitutions is where I imagine the length comes in. I'm still deciding.. wish Replay had more seasons in my wheelhouse.. 90s or more 80s seasons to choose from. imagine its not quite as popular as baseball but it looks like the best basketball game to me

Replay Basketball is my favorite basketball game. You mentioned my biggest issues with it. Takes a long time to play, getting players their rest can be a challenge and even a bit frustrating, and finally, the available seasons are a bit lacking. :-)
@LK3185. Жыл бұрын
@@TheReplayGamer The rest issue I think is stressful cause you almost have to plan ahead.. and in real time, games aren't that way. You're not thinking of taking someone out when doing well etc. I've tried the pc demo but I kinda didn't like it because I couldn't roll 3 dice together? more inputs needed is one thing the PC games shouldn't have. I can roll all the dice i want and look up a result quicker imo. Sorry for tangent.

Hi RG, To keep track of the rest I set up a separate notebook and write down how much rest each starter needs. And the time they leave and enter the games, I have the 2019 version, and it’s hard to keep track without writing it down
@TheReplayGamer3 жыл бұрын
I've tried to keep track of it on my scoresheet but there is not really enough room on the scoresheet, so keeping it in a separate notebook sounds like a very good idea. :-)
@michaelfrazier95376 ай бұрын
Which file did you get the scoresheet from? I went to the website and downloaded several but when I go to print them out, they don't fit the page. Thank you.

Is there some strategy in this game? Like defense playing tight or loose, or double-teaming? Offense playing slow down or taking more inside shots?
@TheReplayGamer Жыл бұрын
Again, it's been a bit since I've played it, but I believe there is some of those things in the more advanced rules... and in the computer version. :-)

Hey friends, if anyone sees this - how would you say this game would be at 2 players ? I’m looking for a basketball strategy game suitable for two.
@TheReplayGamer2 жыл бұрын
Good question. I play everything solo. I think it would be a good game for two. There are quite a bit of strategy options in the game. :-)
@LeadoffCF Жыл бұрын
Do you think the game lacks a little realism, in that there are no types of shots, such as inside, outside, and penetration, which Strat-O-Matic does have?
@TheReplayGamer Жыл бұрын
It didn't bother me before, but I can see how that could lose some in realism to a game that does get a bit more descriptive in the type of shots.

What is your feeling regarding the assist being assigned AFTER the basket is made? Strat does the same thing. It feels backwards to me.
@TheReplayGamer Жыл бұрын
Yeah, however there are some results off of the cards that result in good passes that result in easy or automatic baskets, where the assist comes first. :-)
@kirkjanicehoffman45023 жыл бұрын
Question. Why do you have the player cards out of position on the game board? When I play I have the centers in the center position, the SGs in the SG position, etc. I'd think your way would be more difficult to track who is playing where.
@TheReplayGamer3 жыл бұрын
That's the way they are lined up in the computer game. I played the computer game first, so any other alignment confuses me. :-)
@kirkjanicehoffman45023 жыл бұрын
@@TheReplayGamer Interesting. I've never played the computer version but one would think the computer and tabletop versions would be set up the same way. I wonder why they're different.

Not a huge NBA fan; I'm an old fan of the ABA (Go COLONELS!). My dad bought me a RWB ABA basketball for christmas one year; I have this game, but figuring out how to rest players kind of eludes me though...
@TheReplayGamer3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the length to play a game and trying to figure out a system to rest players are the two biggest challenges to this game for sure...

@@TheReplayGamer If you're playing an as-played lineup I guess you could check each players number of shots from the field per game, or use the total shots per season/# of games to get an average. When the player reaches that number, pull him and replace him.

Hi, I've got an excel version of the spreadsheet that I've added team stats to a worksheet and all you have to do is put the team codes into the team rebound section and it fills in all the important stuff, leaving you to enter the lineups. If you want a copy send me an email and I'll forward it to you
