So were all of Sega's other arcade games in that period. The stuff they made in the mid to late '80s was astonishing.

@S Jake And that's not an overstatement. In achievement they are still absolutely better than those made with modern technology

had this in the arcade i worked at back in '91. it was the full ride on version that required the player to be strapped into the cabin while it moved all over the place. never saw anyone get past the first level.
I love how on every mission they keep sending this clearly damaged ship out into battle. Launch Bay Crew: "Hey, so...the left wing on this thing has been sparking and sending off arcs of electricity since it landed 20 minutes ago...should we do something about that..?" Launch Control: "It's fine, send it out!" LBC: "...OK!" Pilot: "........"
You know if they'd called this Afterburner in Space it would still be just as awesome. It's really hard to describe how great it was seeing these super scalar games in the arcade back in the day. They were just light years beyond anything else - they looked great, they sounded great, they played great. Such awesome memories and fun times.

I can't believe I enjoyed this low resolution game so much back then. I could beat the game with just 1 credit. The local arcade where I went had a full motion version and the whole 12 minutes or so was a joy ride I fully appreciated.

Duwang King the art design (colors and visual style) and also furious missile blasting action is still a marvel in 2019
What an amazing game. It's so fun to play on emulator I can't even imagine how awesome it must've been on the arcade machine - because from what I read about it, it sounds out of this world!
This was a sit down Arcade Game and the entire seat moved left, right, up and down as you steered your ship. I also remember this game being hard as hell even without the bucking and shifting chair. It's a great game! Sad thing was it was almost always broken every time I tried to play it. I figure that chair must have been a real pain to keep working...

Question: Name a game better than Starwing Awnser: This one
Why do Sega never put stuff like this on there retro completion discs?
@houstonhelicoptertours10063 жыл бұрын
They did. It was ported to Saturn in 1998, locked at 30 FPS for technical reasons but otherwise identical. A perfect port was released in 2007 as part of the Sega Ages 2500 series on PS2.
First one is for sprite scaling Second one for backgrond processing And third one for rotation

The real power lies within the custom ICs on this board. For example it is able to rotate the entire frame-buffer at once. This necessitates some overdraw and the cutoff becomes sometimes noticeable if the screen is rotated beyond a certain degree, but overall it saves a lot of processing power. The Sega Saturn port (due to differences in hardware architecture) had to rotate each and every sprite separately to achieve the same effect.
