May 24th 1979. And everything changed. I was fifteen years old watching Top of the Pops. Tubeway Armys performance of "Are Friends Electric?" was simply mesmorising. I'd never seen or heard anything like it before. I bet that I didn't blink once 🖤

Still holds up well today. Numan was really ahead of his time with this song. The music of today just sucks. And i am 22. I absolutely love Gary Numans music, and everything synth related of the late 70s and the 80s. Kraftwerk also blew people away in 1978 with Das Model. Also a masterpiece. But this song just remains my favorite

I'd had my school lunch, I was 13 years old. Punk rock was everywhere,I had no interest in it. I walked down the familiar corridor past the music rooms. At lunchtimes the pupils took in 7" singles to play. All tasted were played, However this day I heard AFE by Tubeway Army. It was like being smacked in the face sonically..This was 1979, I'm still a fan to this day. I met the amazing Mr Numan in Leeds , HMV, for a signing session,proudly got my Telekon cd signed. A great talented man, getting better with age and truly deserves the Ivan Novello award .

Wow always been a Gary Newman fan. Excellent cover of a classic. Saw this done live in Wolverhampton at a concert venue 2 days before being posted to Germany. I took the single with me to play on my portable record player so all my mates could hear this amazing music. Thanks again.

I'm especially impressed of the stereophonic effects. That is different from Numan's original, but in a good way. However, a little bit more presence of the synth compared to the rythm would be nice - a little more "punch". But that is my oppinion... Great job!

The stereo effect was more by chance than engineering - I use a plugin from Gforce called Oddity which is an ARP Odyssey clone which bt default on the preset had some great panning effects. I probably need to boost the lead synth a bit with a minimoog! Thanks for listening!

Arp was famous among '70s musicians to be more thin and aggressive where Minimoog sounded punchy and creamy... Just different recipes, same great sounds.
